PULLMAN, Wash.– The Washington State University women\u2019s swim team defeated the University of Washington at Gibb Pool Thursday by a score of 123 to 82.<\/p>\n
The Cougars, now 3-0 in dual meets this season, won seven out of the 11 events to record their first ever dual meet victory against a Husky swim team. Five additions to WSU\u2019s all-time top 10 lists also highlighted the meet.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis win is a stepping stone for our program, but our focus will continue to be on the Pac-10 and NCAA Championships,\u201d WSU head coach Rocco Aceto said. <\/p>\n
Andree-Anne LeRoy, a freshman from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, won two individual events and help lead the 400 medley relay team to victory. LeRoy\u2019s time of 2:06.87 in the 200 individual medley tied her for second place on the Cougars\u2019 all-time list, just .02 seconds off the school record. She also won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:06.85.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Melissa Hubley (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada) swam strongly for the Cougars, winning the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:04.86 and leading the 400 medley relay team to victory.<\/p>\n
Freshman Taryn Ternent (Edenvale, South Africa) also performed well, winning the 50 freestyle and leading off for the victorious 400 freestyle relay team. Ternent\u2019s time of 24.01 in the 50 freestyle moved her fourth place on WSU\u2019s all-time list.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Jill Olson (Seattle, Wash.) added a win for the Cougars in the 1,000 freestyle, finishing in a time of 10:25.54.<\/p>\n
Other additions to Cougar all-time top ten lists were marked by Rachel Dong (Paramount, Calif.)- 200 breaststroke (5th), Sasha Taylor (Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada)- 200 backstroke (7th), and Rachelle Carano (Reno, Nev.)- 200 butterfly (8th).<\/p>\n
\u201cTonight was a true Cougar effort. Everyone was involved, coming out here to support the team by displaying the true Cougar Spirit,\u201d Aceto said. \u201cIt is good for all Cougars, past, present and future, to break this type of dual meet streak.\u201d<\/p>\n
