INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, November 15. THE University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team completed a near-perfect weekend in the pool on Saturday, winning all three dual meets in the second day of its weekend meet at IUPUI. The Panthers topped the host Jaguars, 90-21, defeated Saint Louis, 66-47, and also won against Xavier, 70-35. The two-day weekend meet featured two separate days of dual meets, with Milwaukee going 5-1 on the weekend to improve to 7-4 on the season. <\/p>\n
Friday, UWM recorded wins of 92-19 against IUPUI and 61-44 against Xavier, but fell, 58-55, to Saint Louis. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Dan Heraly and freshman Sam Keele led the way with two individual wins each on the weekend. The Panthers also received first-place efforts from senior Andrew Belton, junior Jeremy Waldhart, freshman Jordan Diel and two relay teams also placed first overall. <\/p>\n
"It was a good weekend for us – we definitely had some good swims and we definitely had some bad swims," UWM head coach Erica Janssen said. "But, overall, I was pretty happy and pleased with how things went." <\/p>\n
Heraly was busy all weekend, starting things off Friday with a win in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 9:50.86. He also won the 500 freestyle Saturday in 4:48.75. In addition to those results, he added a second-place effort in the 500 Friday and a third-place clocking of 16:37.98 in his first attempt at the 1650 free this season on Saturday. <\/p>\n
Keele continues his strong newcomer campaign, wining the 100 breaststroke Friday in 59.09 and then adding the title in the 200 breast Saturday in 2:12.16, with freshman teammate Brady Huemann right behind in that race in second in 2:14.94. Keele also swam with the winning 400 medley relay squad. <\/p>\n
Belton paced the field in the 100 free Friday in 48.00, while also placing second in the 200 free Saturday in 1:47.20. Waldhart topped the list in the 200 backstroke Saturday, touching the wall in 1:55.42, took second in the 400 IM in 4:16.50 and fourth in the 200 IM Friday in a race that saw the top four finish within 1.18 seconds of each other. <\/p>\n
Kalinowski topped the 50 free race Friday in 21.67 before taking second Saturday in the same event in 21.92. <\/p>\n
Diel was victorious in the 100 butterfly Friday in 51.82 and also took second in the 200 fly Saturday in 1:57.35. He was touched-out of the win in that race, with the first-place time coming in at 1:57.25 as the UWM freshmen continue to add to their resume this season. <\/p>\n
"We have really been pleased with the way the freshmen have been contributing so far this season," Janssen said. "They have really filled in some of the holes we were looking for them to fill and are doing an outstanding job." <\/p>\n
The relay teams had a very strong showing today, with the 400 medley squad of Waldhart, Keele, Diel and Kalinowski starting the meet with a win in 3:33.07 and the team of freshman Kyle Trelka, junior Ed Lichinsky, Belton and Kalinowski winning the 400 free relay in a time of 3:11.76. <\/p>\n
Milwaukee stays on the road to close out the month of November, heading back to Indiana for a league meet at Valparaiso Nov. 22. <\/p>\n
