LOUDONVILLE, New York, November 15. THE Siena women's swimming and diving team split its tri-meet this afternoon at Siena Swim Center, defeating Manhattan 66-38 and losing to Loyola 104-36. Loyola made it a clean sweep on the men's and women's sides, adding a 66-31 victory over Manhattan in women's action and a 68-36 decision on the men's side. <\/p>\n
The Saints improve to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in MAAC meets. Loyola meanwhile improves to 10-1 on the men's side and 11-2 in women's action. Manhattan falls to 0-7 on the men's side and 5-5 in women's action. <\/p>\n
"I thought our women competed hard today," said Brown. "They showed a lot of heart and I thought the overall showing was very good." <\/p>\n
In what was an eventful meet, three long standing pool records fell on the women's side. Loyola's 200 medley relay team of Courtney Trivino, Kim Kraczek, Caitlin Cassidy and Lauren Mari opened the meet with a new Siena Swim Center time of 1:50.61. <\/p>\n
Siena staked claim to the two other records that fell, with sophomore Brittany Pavolko setting a new pool record in the 100 back (:59.21) and the 400 free relay team of Molly Chamberlain, MaryAnn Gaffuri, Caitlyn Biagioli and Pavolko winning in a record time of 3:38.48. <\/p>\n
"We held that pool record (400 free relay) and our team knew they had to win to keep the record in Siena's hands," added Brown. "All four of those women fought hard and deserved it." <\/p>\n
Cassidy led all women's swimmers with three additional pool pacing times on the afternoon in the 50 and 200 free and 100 fly. Teammates Kraczek and Victoria Kamauff also added three total victories for the meet. <\/p>\n
The Saints are off for the next three weeks before returning to action at Siena Swim Center on Dec. 6 in a non-conference tri-meet against Howard and NJIT. Events are slated to get underway at 1 p.m. <\/p>\n
