CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia, November 15. THE No. 23 Florida State men’s swimming and diving team took home the Seminole lone win of the weekend with an upset victory against No. 15-ranked Penn State 225.5-127.5 in Charlottesville, Va. The Seminole men lost to No. 12 Virginia 197-154 while the women were defeated by the No. 13 Cavaliers 216-129 and the No. 19-ranked Nittany Lions 207-146.<\/p>\n
Against Penn State, Florida State (6-1, 1-1) won all but one event on the second day led by junior Andy Hodgson who was victorious in two events. Hodgson started the day as the overall winner in the 100 back (49.63) and then repeated his performance in the 200 free (1:38.73). A day after swimming a NCAA provisional time in the 500 free fifth year senior won the 1000 free with a season best time of 9:12.89. Junior Nick Graves and sophomore Ian Rowe were able to take third and fourth respectively in the 1000 as well.<\/p>\n
The Seminole women (7-3, 2-1) were once again paced by freshman Stephanie Sarandos who turned in a second-place showing in the 100 back (56.14). Sophomores Holly Mills and C.J. Hendry and junior Shanda Casella both all had third-place showings as well with Mills taking third in the 1000 free (10:06.04) and Hendry in the 100 fly (56.16), while Casella touched third in the 50 free (23.72).<\/p>\n
Next up for Florida State will be a home meet against rival Florida on Tuesday, November 25, at the Bobby E. Leach Center at 5:00 p.m. Admission is free and for results and a meet recap log onto www.seminoles.com. <\/p>\n
