Men’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n Brandonn Almeida<\/strong>, who already had a 4:14.07 Olympic qualifying time to his credit from the Brazil Open in December, cruised to a 4:14.63 to win the distance medley event tonight. \u00a0That swim put him 10th in the world this year.<\/p>\n China’s Wang Yizhe<\/strong> finished second tonight in 4:20.86, while Leonardo Coelho<\/strong> took third overall in 4:21.17.<\/p>\n Caio Rodrigues<\/strong> (4:24.88), Icaro Pereira<\/strong> (4:28.72), Leonardo Calice<\/strong> (4:30.16) and Marcelo Pereira<\/strong> (4:36.98) claimed fourth through eighth. \u00a0Japan’s Kakeru Murata<\/strong> had a 4:20.55\u00a0swimming exhibition.<\/p>\n Women’s 100 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n With two swimmers already clearing the FINA A cut this morning (Daiene Dias<\/strong>, 58.04; Etiene Medeiros<\/strong>, 58.49), it’s just a matter of seeing if anyone can beat those times. \u00a0Medeiros, however, decided to scratch finals, doubting any other Brazilian would be able to beat her time for the second spot on the Olympics.<\/p>\n That was a bad decision as Dias won the finale in 58.07, while Daynara De Paula<\/strong> claimed second in 58.38 – ahead of Medeiros’ Olympic qualifying time of 58.49.<\/p>\n Li Shuang<\/strong> posted a 59.57 for third, while Natalia De Luccas<\/strong> placed fourth in 59.81.<\/p>\n Caroline Bruna<\/strong> (59.87), Giovanna Tomanik<\/strong> (1:00.39), Katarina Listopadova<\/strong> (58.71) and Barbora Misendova<\/strong> (1:00.00) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n Men’s 400 free<\/strong><\/p>\n Luiz Altamir<\/strong> came into the meet with a FINA A cut time of 3:50.32 from last December. \u00a0Miguel Valente<\/strong> won the event tonight in a time of 3:51.62, missing the FINA A cut of 3:50.40.<\/p>\n Martin Carrizo<\/strong> picked up second-place honors in a time of 3:54.45, while Giovanny Lima<\/strong> took third in 3:54.61.<\/p>\n Fernando Scheffer<\/strong> (3:56.63), Alexandre Finco<\/strong> (3:57.00), Marcos Oliveira<\/strong> (3:57.08), Guilherme Costa<\/strong> (3:57.46) and Lucas Kanieski<\/strong> (3:58.80) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n In the B final, Altamir picked up a 3:55.00 to win the consolation heat.<\/p>\n Women’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n Joanna Maranhao<\/strong> improved her FINA A cut time of 4:41.82 with a 4:38.66 to win the distance medley finale.<\/p>\n Barbora Zavadova<\/strong> took second in 4:42.17, clearing the FINA A cut of 4:43.46 for the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n Virginia Bardach<\/strong> of Argentina also cleared the FINA A cut with a third-place 4:43.17.<\/p>\n Florencia Perotti<\/strong> (4:45.30), Gabrielle Roncatto<\/strong> (4:47.65), Bruna Primati<\/strong> (4:50.24), Haruno Ito<\/strong> (4:50.47) and Nathalia Almeida<\/strong> also swam in finals.<\/p>\n Men’s 100 breast<\/strong><\/p>\n A quartet of swimmers cleared the FINA A cut this morning: Joao Gomes Jr.<\/strong> (59.06), Felipe Franca<\/strong> (59.56), Pedro Cardona<\/strong> (59.77) and Felipe Lima<\/strong> (1:00.06) cleared the FINA A cut of 1:00.57.<\/p>\n Tonight, Gomes Jr. won the finale in 59.10 to secure his spot on the Olympic roster. \u00a0Franca, meanwhile, took second in 59.36 to improve his fourth-ranked time in the world and clinch the second Olympic spot.<\/p>\n Cardona (1:00.11), Lima (1:00.37), Raphael Oliveira<\/strong> (1:00.48), Henrique Barbosa<\/strong> (1:00.96), Felipe Monni<\/strong> (1:01.45) and Diego Prado<\/strong> (1:02.05) also put up times in the A final.<\/p>\n SCHEDULED EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n Live coverage of day one finals\u00a0\u00a0of the 2016 Maria Lenk Trophy meet.
