Brazilian swimmers are fighting for FINA A cuts to get a chance at making the Olympic team.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the first event in the Olympic venue, Kakeru Murata<\/strong> posted a 4:23.83 to lead the way in prelims. \u00a0Leonardo Coelho<\/strong> took second this morning with a 4:23.87.<\/p>\n

Brandonn Almeida<\/strong> qualified third in 4:24.97 with Caio Rodrigues<\/strong> taking fourth in 4:29.93.<\/p>\n

China’s Wang Yizhe<\/strong> (4:30.38), Leonardo Calice<\/strong> (4:31.61), Icaro Pereira<\/strong> (4:33.57), and Marcelo Pereira<\/strong> (4:35.80) comprised the rest of the top eight.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Daiene Dias<\/strong> put up the top time of the morning in the 100 fly with a 58.04. \u00a0Etiene Medeiros<\/strong> qualified second in 58.49, while Katarina Listopadova<\/strong> also cleared 59 with a third-seeded 58.99. \u00a0Dias and Medeiros both cleared the FINA A Cut in the event.<\/p>\n

Daynara Ferreira<\/strong> (59.01), Bruna Lemos<\/strong> (59.45), Li Shuang<\/strong> (59.91), Natalia De Luccas<\/strong> (1:00.07) and Barbora Misendova<\/strong> (1:00.35) closed out the rest of the top eight.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lucas Kanieski<\/strong> claimed the top time of prelims with a 3:53.61. \u00a0That’s still well off the FINA A cut of 3:50.40.<\/p>\n

Miguel Valente<\/strong> qualified second in a time of 3:54.29 with Giovanny Lima<\/strong> taking third in 3:54.50.<\/p>\n

Fernando Scheffer<\/strong> (3:55.56), Marcos Ferrari<\/strong> (3:56.12), Martin Carrizo<\/strong> (3:56.42), Alexandre Finco<\/strong> (3:56.45) and Guilherme Costa<\/strong> (3:57.15) also made the top eight.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joanna Maranhao<\/strong> earned the top seed with a time of 4:46.54. She is already the top swimmer in Brazil with a 4:41.82 from earlier in the season which should qualify her for the Olympics.<\/p>\n

Barbora Zavadova<\/strong> qualified second in 4:48.16 with Haruno Ito<\/strong> taking third in 4:50.59.<\/p>\n

Virginia Bardach<\/strong> (4:50.85), Bruna Primati<\/strong> (4:51.58), Florencia Perotti<\/strong> (4:52.05), Gabrielle Goncalves<\/strong> (4:52.07) and Nathalia Almeida<\/strong> (4:55.94) comprised the top eight.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joao Gomes Jr.<\/strong> put up the highlight swim of the morning with a near-Brazilian record time of 59.06 in the men’s 100-meter breast.<\/p>\n

Gomes Jr. moved to second in the world behind only Adam Peaty’s<\/strong> 58.41 from the British Championships. \u00a0His time nearly cleared Henrique Barbosa’s<\/strong> Brazilian record of 59.03 set at the techsuit-fueled 2009 Maria Lenk Trophy meet.<\/p>\n

Two other swimmers also cleared 1:00 this morning as Felipe Franca<\/strong> clocked a 59.56 for second overall, moving to fourth in the world in the process. \u00a0Pedro Cardona<\/strong> took third this morning with a 59.77, moving up to 10th in the world with his swim.<\/p>\n

Felipe Lima<\/strong> (1:00.06), Felipe Monni<\/strong> (1:00.68), Raphael Oliveira<\/strong> (1:00.90), Diego Prado<\/strong> (1:01.45) and Henrique Marques<\/strong> (1:01.67) also made the top eight.<\/p>\n

SCHEDULED EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n
