Swimming at the Aussie Trials in Adelaide, <\/span><b>McEvoy <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/race-video-watch-cameron-mcevoy-unleash-a-47-04-in-100-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">threw down a 47.04 to produce the fastest ever 100 freestyle in a textile suit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that was just off the world record of 46.94. <\/span><b>McEvoy\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">performance was an Australian and All-Comers record, taking down <\/span><b>James Magnussen\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mark of 47.10 from the 2012 Championships. <\/span><b>Magnussen\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">time also happened to be the previous textile best. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That puts <\/span><b>Cameron McEvoy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first in the world in the 100 freestyle by nearly a full second. Only three other men have broken 48.0 this year: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jeremy-stravius-rockets-to-2nd-in-world-in-100-free-in-france\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frenchman <\/span><b>Jeremy Stravius,<\/b><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/shen-duo-qiu-yuhan-move-to-top-five-in-the-world-rankings-ye-shiwen-earns-olympic-ticket\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chinese swimmer <\/span><b>Zeteo Ning<\/b><\/a><b>, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jeremy-stravius-rockets-to-2nd-in-world-in-100-free-in-france\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defending Gold Medalist in the 50 freestyle,\u00a0<\/span><b>Flourent Manaudou<\/b><\/a><b>. Stravius <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Ning <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were 47.97 and 47.96 respectively this past week at their Olympic Trials, and <\/span><b>Manaudou <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won\u2019t be competing in the 100 after failing to qualify in the event individually. While defending Olympic Gold Medalist <\/span><b>Nathan Adrian <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will surely look to make a statement at the U.S. Trials in June, this performance puts <\/span><b>McEvoy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as an early favorite for gold in Rio and serves as a major boost to the Aussie\u2019s chances in the 400 free relay.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Congratulations <\/span><b>Cameron McEvoy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on earning <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swimming World\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Performance of the Week!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Olympic\u00a0Trials underway around\u00a0the world there was no shortage of world leading performances this week, but Australian Cameron McEvoy gave us one for the record books.
