SOUTH BEND, Indiana, November 8. IN a battle for state bragging rights, Notre Dame split with Purdue in a SwimmingWorldMagazine.com<\/b> Meet of the Week. Notre Dame's women protecting their turf with a 189-111 conquest, while Purdue's men turned in a 187-107 victory.<\/p>\n
Notre Dame's Amywren Miller led the way for the Irish with four event titles to her credit. She won a pair of relays, first anchoring the 400 medley relay squad of Lauren Parisi, Sam Maxwell, Katie Casey and Miller to victory in 3:49.53. She then closed the night with anchor duty in the 400 free relay as Amy Prestinario, Christa Riggins, Delia Cronin and Miller won in 3:29.36. Miller also grabbed wins in the 50 (23.21) and 100 free (51.11).<\/p>\n
Maxwell had the top swim of the night for Notre Dame when she cleared the B-cut standard in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.31 as she crushed the field in the event.<\/p>\n
In diving, Ashley Beal of Purdue (327.08), Heidi Grossman of Notre Dame (319.58) and Casey Matthews of Purdue (296.41) cleared the zone standard in the three-meter. In the one-meter, Matthews (283.95), Emily Wetzel of Purdue (278.32), Beal (270.30) and Grossman (266.39) all beat the zone threshold.<\/p>\n
Allie Smith and Beal provided Purdue with its lone titles. Smith won the 100 back in 56.56, while Beal took the three-meter diving event.<\/p>\n
For the men, Aaron Koger and John Schmitt each claimed three titles for Purdue. The 400 medley relay foursome of Tim Watts, Koger, Andrew Langenfeld and Schmitt won in 3:20.78. Koger also touched first in the 100 breast (56.23) and 200 breast (2:02.64), while Schmitt took wins in the 100 free (45.58) and 200 free (1:39.80).<\/p>\n
Michael Sullivan paced Notre Dame with a pair of event wins. He took titles in the 200 back (1:52.79) and 400 IM (4:07.18).<\/p>\n
Diving for the men proved to be lights out. David Boudia of Purdue (373.05), Michael Bulfin of Notre Dame (353.10), Danny Cox of Purdue (333.52), David Colturi of Purdue (325.57), Eric Lex of Notre Dame (311.99) and Caleb Dunnichay of Notre Dame (308.54) all beat the zone cut in the one-meter. In the three-meter, Boudia (440.48), Bulfin (366.60), Colturi (328.58) and Nathan Geary of Notre Dame (322.12) all eclipsed the zone standard.<\/p>\n
