FORT WORTH, Texas. November 7. TCU's women's swimming and diving squad upended the Colorado State Rams, 128-115, earning their first Mountain Conference win of the season, while handing CSU it's first loss.<\/p>\n
"Colorado State came into our house undefeated and we were ready," TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said. "I'm proud of the way our girls swam tonight."<\/p>\n
Sophmore Maria Paula Alvarez had a big night for the Frogs, adding a pair of victories, including a TCU record-breaking finish in the 1000-free. The Cali, Colombia native, topped her previous mark of 10:16.22 by nearly two seconds with a clocking of 10:14.37. Alvarez picked up her second win of the meet in the 500-free, pacing the field at 5:00.70.<\/p>\n
Freshman Ashley Bolin and junior diver Jennifer Ferguson also earned two wins on the night. Bolin picked up TCU's first win of the season in the 400-IM, leading the way at 4:26.73. The newcomer also picked up her second medal in the 100-free with a time of 52.37. Ferguson cruised for her win in the three-mete dive, turning in a score sheet of 271.51. Her performance in the one-meter was just enough to slide past the competition, topping Nicole Kelley from CSU, 259.81 to 259.43.<\/p>\n
Other winners for the Frogs include senior Katie Rosen, junior Stephanie Futscher and freshman Kaitlyn Vann. Rosen picked up her second-straight 200-breast victory with a final time of 2:23.09, while Futscher turned in her top time of the season for her second 200-fly (2:05.36) win of the season. Vann, a Cumming, Ga., native added her first 200-free victory of the year with a time of 1:54.22.<\/p>\n
TCU will now have to travel for its first Mountain West Conference meets away from the University Rec Center. The Frogs will face Air Force on Nov. 13 and Wyoming Nov. 15.<\/p>\n
"Our girls are having fun right now and they are swimming fast," Sybesma said. "Now we have to go on the road and continue to get better."<\/p>\n
