That&#8217;s faster than the previous textile best of 47.10 clocked by <strong>James Magnussen<\/strong> at the 2012 Australian Championships.<\/p>\n<p>McEvoy came up just short of <strong>Cesar Cielo&#8217;s<\/strong> techsuit-fueled world record of 46.91 from the 2009 World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>McEvoy also broke the Commonwealth and Australian record of 47.05 set by<strong> Eamon Sullivan<\/strong> back in 2008.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kyle Chalmers<\/strong>, just 17, uncorked a blistering 48.03 for second to earn the second spot on the Olympic squad, downing the world junior record of 48.25 set by Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Matheus Santana<\/strong> in 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Roberts<\/strong> placed third overall in 48.32, while Olympic silver medalist <strong>James Magnussen<\/strong> took fourth in 48.68 to miss a chance at swimming the individual event in Rio.
