Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the obvious focus of Olympic qualifying meets this week was on those competing to represent their country, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/why-swim-at-another-countrys-trials\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">several American stars also participated in the action up in Canada as they continue their own preparations for U.S. Trials this summer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Elizabeth Beisel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">competed at several events throughout the meet, including the 400 IM where she put up a season-best 4:35.59. That swim is a great sign for <\/span><b>Beisel, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who spent much of last season recovering from injury. <\/span><b>Josh Prenot <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posted a lifetime best 2:08.58 in the 200 breast, while Cal teammate <\/span><b>Ryan Murphy, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who is coming off a historic NCAA Championships, posted impressive times in the 100 (52.57) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-murphy-leaps-2nd-world-200-back-154-94\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">200 (1:54.94) backstroke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While the knowledge of the incident was apparently well known in Hungarian swimming back in the 60\u2019s, a recent posting of the conviction on a Hungarian website brought it back into the spotlight within the Hungarian swimming community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report details <\/span><b>Kiss\u2019 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conviction and time in prison before his release in 1963. Youngster <\/span><b>Rikako Ikee <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also had a pair of national records in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-japan-swim-day-1-live-recap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 100 butterfly (57.55)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rikako-ikee-adds-seventh-event-to-rio-schedule-posts-new-world-junior-record\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 50 free (24.76)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Shinri Shioura <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kosuke-hagino-scorches-200-im-field-moves-to-first-in-world-rankings\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also posted a national record in the 100 free (48.35)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but failed to qualify individually as he missed the Japanese Olympic standard in the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, breaststroke legend <\/span><b>Kosuke Kitajima <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kosuke-kitajima-interview\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">narrowly missed qualifying for his fifth Olympic Games in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Although he finished second in the 100 breaststroke final, he missed the Japanese Olympic qualifying standard. On the men\u2019s side, <\/span><b>Mack Horton <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mack-horton-unloads-top-ranked-341-65-400-free-in-australia\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">started off the meet with a world leading time in the 400 freestyle (3:41.65)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That makes <\/span><b>Horton<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the second fastest Australian ever, sitting only behind the legend <\/span><b>Ian Thorpe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Backstroke superstar <\/span><b>Mitch Larkin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/emily-seebohm-mitch-larkin-put-on-show-during-night-2-at-australian-nationals\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posted a world-leading and All-Comers record of 52.48 in the 100 back in semi-finals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before taking the title in 52.54, while <\/span><b>Emily Seebohm <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/emily-seebohm-rockets-to-top-ranked-58-73-in-100-back\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rocketed to the top of the world rankings en route to winning the women\u2019s 100 back (58.73)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
