PHOENIX, Arizona, November 5. THE Arcadia girls (489) and the Flagstaff boys (315) walked away with state titles at the Arizona 4A Division II Championships. On the girls' side, it was a race to second place for Notre Dame Prep and Mingus. Note Dame Prep took the silver with 267 points, followed by Mingus with 262. Arcadia (267) and Mingus (244) finished in second and third for the boys.<\/p>\n
Boys Individual Results<\/b>
\nArcadia started the day by winning the 200 medley relay on both sides. The group of Chris Pickard, Scott Angell, Nathan Anderson, and Zack McConville touched in with a time of 1:41.28.<\/p>\n
Tyler Messerschmidt (Desert Edge High School) was victorious in the 200 freestyle. He dashed in with an AA-A cut for a time of 1:38.90. He was nearly .09 seconds off the AZ 4 State record and .64 seconds off the AZ State record. Messerschmidt also made his AA-A cut in the 100 backstroke (49.89).<\/p>\n
Pickard had dual individual wins in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. He earned his AA-A cut with a 1:52.91 finish in the 200 IM. He sprinted a 50.97 in the 100 butterfly, receiving an AA-C time.<\/p>\n
Santa Rita's Nico Montano took first in the diving competition with a score of 376.35.<\/p>\n
Washington High School and Notre Dame Prep won the final two relays. In the 200 freestyle relay, Washington's Skyler Kennon, Kevin Morrison, Irving Rios, and Joseph Amorin finished with a 1:34.84. The Notre Dame Prep team of Ryan Evans, Ben Brouwer, Mazin Elia, and Alex Brouwer had a first-place finishing time of 3:19.02 in the 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
Girls Individual Results<\/b>
\nIt was a chain reaction for Arcadia when MacKenzie Lee, Hannah Stuart, Carter Graves, and Carly Stevens opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:53.48).<\/p>\n
In addition to the opening and closing relays, Graves had two individual wins, earning AA-C times in each event. She won the 100 butterfly by a landslide in 57.74. Her first-place finish in the 100 backstroke was 56.97.<\/p>\n
Stevens, a freshman, touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:57.70). She also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:12.71.<\/p>\n
Stevens' teammate, Chelsea Kelly, took control of the diving competition for a score of 409.05. <\/p>\n
Morgan Palmanteer of Perry had a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle (56.26). She touched out her opponents, Valerie Parmarter and Alexis Kezirian, by .12 and .36 seconds, respectively.<\/p>\n
Sophomores Meghan Stetka, Amber Groves, Melynn Grebe, and Palmanteer united for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.37).<\/p>\n
The relay team of Stevens, Melanie Gustafson, Laura Gonzales, and Graves combined to close the meet with a time of 3:43.23.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
