STONY BROOK, New York, November 2. STONY Brook University's swimming & diving teams had ten first-place finishes Saturday afternoon in their meet against the University of Massachusetts. Freshman Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) paced the Seawolves with three victories while breaking a school-record for the second time this season. <\/p>\n
Heuser, who broke the 1,000-yard freestyle record earlier this year, set a new school-record in the 500-yard free. Her time of 5:05.36 was three seconds faster than the previous mark. Heuser also took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.40) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:38.83). Sophomore Lisa Jackson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) took third in the 1,000-yard free, finishing three seconds shy of her lifetime best time. <\/p>\n
The women's team also received a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly from freshman Mallory Breen (Quispamsis, Canada), who posted a lifetime best time of 1:00.87. The Seawolves finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay as well. Heuser, junior Rebecca Sayles (Calgary, Alberta), sophomore Maja Gudelj (Split, Croatia) and freshman Kelsey Stranc (Chicago, Ill.) completed the race in 1:39.57, receiving a personal-best time from Sayles. <\/p>\n
On the men's side, sophomore Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) posted three first-place finishes, taking the 400-yard IM (4:17.22), 1,000-yard freestyle (10:11.00) and 500-yard freestyle (4:46.74). Freshman Ian Francis (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had an impressive first home meet for the Seawolves, winning the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes, posting a personal-best time of 59.95 in the 100. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of senior Michael MacDonald (Monroe Township, N.J.), freshman Ildar Khabibrakhmanov (Syosset, N.Y.), senior Omer Ozcan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.) also took first, finishing in 1:27.02. <\/p>\n
The Seawolves next meet will be on Wednesday when they host Fordham. <\/p>\n
