In reality, even the fastest swimmers have technique limitations, but they offset them with strength and conditioning. The purpose of this series of articles is to address scientifically the technique misconceptions that have become \u201cconventional wisdom,\u201d and to present options that are more effective.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing on the misconception that swimmers should just &#8220;swim through the pain,&#8221; <strong>Dr<\/strong>. <strong>Rod<\/strong> <strong>Havriluk<\/strong> continues the series by evaluating the stress index of the shoulder in both butterfly and freestyle. Havriluk also factors in the time of exposure and highlights what some of the technique elements of shoulder stress are before highlighting ways in which a swimmer can decrease shoulder stress in their stroke.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Rod Havriluk is a sports scientist and consultant who specializes in swimming technique instruction and analysis.
