BALTIMORE, Maryland, November 1. THE Georgetown University swimming and diving team had 10 swimmers post BIG EAST Championship qualifying times, including freshman Kristen Pratt (Wyckoff, N.J.\/Ramapo) who broke the school record in the 200 butterfly (2:08.17), and the Hoyas defeated Lafayette (311.5-284.5) but fell to Loyola (Md.) and Seton Hall on Saturday at Mangione Aquatic Center in Baltimore, Md. The Blue & Gray received first-place finishes from Pratt in the 100 (59.36) and 200 butterfly and sophomore Caitlin Karniski (Tampa, Fla.\/Berkley Prep) in the one-meter dive (231.95). <\/p>\n
"Obviously, we're very proud of Kristen's performances here today," Head Coach Steven Cartwright said. "This not only bodes well for her, but the program as a whole as we continue to move forward and make progress." <\/p>\n
It was a big day for Georgetown in regards to BIG EAST qualifying times as the Hoyas hit double-digits. Freshman Kelly Donlin (Harrison, N.Y.\/Convent of the Sacred Heart) qualified in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.59 and senior Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa.\/Mt. Lebanon) swam a 2:00.36 in the 200 backstroke. <\/p>\n
Freshman Trevor Kosmo (Goleta, Calif.\/Dos Pueblos) and sophomore Alison Christie (Edison, N.J.\/Mount St. Mary Academy) both hit the mark in the 200 butterfly with times of 1:59.69 and 2:13.19, respectively. Sophomore Megan Harvey (Norristown, Pa.\/Notre Dame de Namur) qualified in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:00.65 <\/p>\n
"We saw some really good things today in the pool," Cartwright added. "We have improved as a team due to our level of training. We have really stepped it up, both in the water and the weight room" <\/p>\n
Sophomore Mallory Kiplinger (Darien, Conn.\/Darien) and freshman Victor Lopez-Cantera (Miami, Fla.\/Belen Jesuit Prep) both succeeded in qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships in the 200 individual medleys as Lopez-Cantera clocked in at 2:00.42 and Kiplinger at 2:13.92. <\/p>\n
Freshman Kyle Chow (Scarsdale, N.Y.\/Fordham Prep) qualified in the 400 medley relay. He swam the backstroke leg of the race in a time of 55.79 Junior Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J.\/Mount St. Mary Academy) swam a 1:10.74 in the 100 breaststroke and Pratt's 500 freestyle time of 1:10.74 was also good enough to meet the criteria. <\/p>\n
"We went up against some very stiff competition today," Cartwright said. "Hopefully, this will set us up for some good times at the Patriot Invitational in three weeks." <\/p>\n
