Four new Olympic Trials cuts were earned in tonight’s session of the Speedo Sectionals in Buffalo, New York.<\/p>\n

Ridgefield Aquatic’s\u00a0Andrew Bornstein\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 200 breaststroke on his way to the Olympic Trials cut. The 15 year old finished in 2:18.27. Second place went to Scarlet Aquatic’s\u00a0Eric Materniak\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:25.48 while Cougar Aquatic’s\u00a0Joseph Scerbo\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 2:27.61.<\/p>\n

Chelsea Pier’s\u00a0John Montesi\u00a0<\/strong>and unattached\u00a0Hudson Carroll\u00a0<\/strong>both earned the Olympic Trials cut in the 100 backstroke. Montesi blasted the 57.19 standard, touching in 56.84, while Carroll just slid under it, finishing in 57.12. Fourteen year old\u00a0Vincent Marciano\u00a0<\/strong>of Morris County was third with a 57.46.<\/p>\n

The top three men in the 50 free were under the 23.29 Trials cut. Hitting the standard for the first time was Buffalo Area Aquatic Club’s third place finisher\u00a0Michael Dugan\u00a0<\/strong>in 23.23. Swimmin’s\u00a0Drew Modrov\u00a0<\/strong>won the event in a 22.76.\u00a0Wyatt Ubellacker<\/strong>, swimming unattached, touched second in 23.13.<\/p>\n

Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club was first to the wall in the women’s 200 medley relay.\u00a0Kelly Montesi<\/strong>,\u00a0Mary Christensen<\/strong>,\u00a0Amelia Sicignano<\/strong>, and\u00a0Bridget Semenuk\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 1:57.65. Asphalt Green’s\u00a0Krystal Lara<\/strong>,\u00a0Carly Fried<\/strong>,\u00a0Nicole Aarts<\/strong>, and\u00a0Alessia McGowan\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 1:59.40. Ridgefield’s\u00a0Marcella Maguire<\/strong>,\u00a0Lindsey Gordon<\/strong>,\u00a0Hannah Snyder<\/strong>, and\u00a0Sara Al Khatib\u00a0<\/strong>claimed third with a 2:00.68.<\/p>\n

Ridgefield finished first on the men’s side with a 1:48.04 from the team of\u00a0Kieran Smith<\/strong>,\u00a0Bornstein,\u00a0Brian Valedon<\/strong>, and\u00a0Liam Riebling<\/strong>. The Town of Tonawanda Titans’\u00a0Allan Collins<\/strong>,\u00a0Matthew Marsh<\/strong>,\u00a0Evan Graesser<\/strong>,\u00a0and\u00a0Kyle Griffin<\/strong> were just behind in 1:48.80. Victor Swim Club’s\u00a0Daniel Burke<\/strong>,\u00a0Noah Stevens<\/strong>,\u00a0Kai Wisner<\/strong>, and\u00a0Jacob Zitz\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 1:50.42.<\/p>\n

SOLO’s\u00a0Bryanna Cameron\u00a0<\/strong>won the women’s 200 butterfly in a time of 2:16.05. Victor Swim Club’s\u00a0Makayla Sargent\u00a0<\/strong>was a quarter of a second back in 2:15.30. Third place went to\u00a0Lauryn Johnson\u00a0<\/strong>of Long Island Aquatic Club in 2:16.74.<\/p>\n

Though three tenths off her best time, Wilton YMCA’s\u00a0Ky-lee Perry\u00a0<\/strong>cleared the Trials cut in the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 26.07. Unattached\u00a0Caitlin Kelly\u00a0<\/strong>and Berkeley’s\u00a0Claire O’Mara\u00a0<\/strong>finished closely for second and third, stopping the clock at 26.45 and 26.47.<\/p>\n

Mary Christensen\u00a0<\/strong>of Chelsea Piers dominated the 200 breaststroke, touching in 2:38.47, over three seconds ahead of Asphalt Green’s\u00a0Sophia Zhang\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:41.69. Wilton YMCA’s\u00a0Emma Holmquist\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 2:42.07.<\/p>\n

Scarlet’s\u00a0Matea Samardzic\u00a0<\/strong>and Ridgefield’s\u00a0Marcella Maguire\u00a0<\/strong>both repeated their existing Trials cuts in the 100 backstroke as the two finished in 1:02.15 and 1:03.22. Central Jersey’s\u00a0Caroline Gmelich\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 1:03.64.<\/p>\n

Samardzic later won the 400 freestyle with a 4:20.47. Berkeley Aquatics’\u00a0Natalie Ward\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 4:21.40. Cameron was third in 4:21.63.<\/p>\n

Upper Valley’s\u00a0Kristian Hansen\u00a0<\/strong>led a trio of men to 4:05s in the 400 freestyle, as he stopped the clock in 4:05.28. Asphalt Green’s\u00a0Aaron Glas\u00a0<\/strong>was second in 4:05.80, while Ridgefield’s Smith was third with a 4:05.98.<\/p>\n

Central Jersey Aquatic Club’s\u00a0Annemarie Schnoor<\/strong>,\u00a0Caroline Gmelich<\/strong>,\u00a0Kathryn Petrone<\/strong>, and\u00a0Helen Grossman\u00a0<\/strong>won the women’s 400 freestyle relay with a 3:55.63.\u00a0Mary Mckenzie-Grier<\/strong>, Aarts,\u00a0Alessia McGowan<\/strong>, and\u00a0Krystal Lara\u00a0<\/strong>combined for a 3:57.18 to place second for Asphalt Green. The Asphalt Green B squad of\u00a0Charlotte Krevitt<\/strong>,\u00a0Luiza Silveria<\/strong>, Zhang, and\u00a0Isabel Gormley\u00a0<\/strong>were third in 3:59.77.<\/p>\n

Scarlet Aquatics claimed the men’s 400 freestyle relay in 3:39.07 with the team of\u00a0Jonathan Gomez<\/strong>,\u00a0Leighton Maters<\/strong>,\u00a0Eric Wong<\/strong>, and\u00a0Philip Kang.\u00a0<\/strong>Liam Picozzi<\/strong>,\u00a0Timothy Maggs<\/strong>,\u00a0Ryan Board<\/strong>, and\u00a0Everett McNair\u00a0<\/strong>were second for the\u00a0Adirondack Bluefins\u00a0<\/strong>in 3:39.17.\u00a0Collins,\u00a0Marsh,\u00a0Graesser,\u00a0and\u00a0Griffin were third for the Town of Tonawanda Titans with a 3:39.30.<\/p>\n

Asphalt Green has 363.5 points to lead the women’s team standings with Berkeley in second with 315. For the men, Scarlet has 434 points and Ridgefield has 225 points to hold second.<\/p>\n
