﻿{"id":193135,"date":"2016-04-02T07:25:18","date_gmt":"2016-04-02T14:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=193135"},"modified":"2016-04-02T07:25:18","modified_gmt":"2016-04-02T14:25:18","slug":"st-peters-western-wins-australian-age-group-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/st-peters-western-wins-australian-age-group-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"St. Peters Western Wins Australian Age Group Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Queensland\u2019s St Peters Western has successfully defended the 2016 Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Champion Club pointscore at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_415557179\"><span class=\"aQJ\">tonight<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>After six exciting nights of swimming it was the Brisbane-based <strong>Dean Boxall<\/strong> coached SPW team that charged away to take the prestigious WJ Harrison Trophy as Queensland again dominated the Inter-State pointscore.<\/p>\n<p>After an early tussle with 2014 winner, Gold Coast\u2019s TSS Aquatics, QLD it was St Peters Western (2500.5) that surged away from TSS Aquatics, QLD 1698.5 with Nunawading, VIC moving into third on 1270.5, narrowly ahead of fellow Victorian club Melbourne Vicentre, VIC 1120, with NSW sister clubs Carlile 1009 and Cherrybrook Carlile 845, followed by MLC Aquatic, VIC 770, UWA West Coast WA 573, Kawana Waters QLD 565 and Southport Olympic, QLD 538 rounding out the Top Ten.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_415557180\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Tonight\u2019s<\/span><\/span> \u00a0SPW individual gold medallists <strong>Jack Cartwright, Abbey Harkin, Caitlin Leslie<\/strong> and <strong>Nathan Robinson<\/strong> and the club\u2019s 18 years and under 4x100m medley relay put the icing on the cake for the club with stunning swims on the final night.<\/p>\n<p>It was a memorable night for Cartwright who won the individual 100 metres freestyle in a personal best time of 49.50 from <strong>Jake Kersten<\/strong> (TSS Aquatics, QLD) 49.94 and <strong>Louis Townsend<\/strong> (Rackley, QLD) 49.99 and then anchored the club\u2019s relay team (<strong>Tristan Ludlow, Michael Ng<\/strong> and <strong>Clyde Lewis<\/strong>) to victory with a flying-start final freestyle split of 49.15.<\/p>\n<p>Ludlow started off with an equally impressive 56.19 backstroke; followed by Ng\u2019s breaststroke split of 1:04.86 and Lewis\u2019 54.21 in the butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the meet it was Lewis, Ludlow and Cartwright who had secured a rare SPW trifecta in the 17-18 years 100m backstroke final.<\/p>\n<p>And as hard s they tried <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_415557181\"><span class=\"aQJ\">tonight<\/span><\/span> they fell agonisingly short of the\u00a0Australian\u00a0record by\u00a0just 0.01.<\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the freestyle spectrum came the stirring 1500m win to SPW\u2019s <strong>Nathan Robinson<\/strong> who stormed home to clock a personal best of 15:29.54 ahead of <strong>Max Osborn<\/strong> (TSS Aquatics, QLD) 15:42.24 with New Zealand\u2019s <strong>Zac Reid<\/strong> third in 15:50.44.<\/p>\n<p>And it was his celebration that said it all with Robinson ecstatic with his performance which summed up the enthusiasm of a SPW group that showed why they are such a dominant force.<\/p>\n<p>The girls were also in the thick of the action with Harkin winning the 17-18 girls 100m freestyle in 56.08 from New Zealand\u2019s <strong>Abby Duncan<\/strong> (56.62) and Canberra\u2019s <strong>Bonnie Zhang<\/strong> (56.69) while <strong>Caitlin Leslie<\/strong> (2:34.09) led a SPW quinella with <strong>Emily Krummel<\/strong> (2:36.83) in the 14 years 200m breaststroke with Lauren Robinson (Acacia Bayside QLD) third in 2:37.52.<\/p>\n<p>SPW\u2019s Head Coach, <strong>Michael Bohl<\/strong> was quick to congratulate his assistant coach Boxall and the team saying \u201chard work and team work certainly paid off with a host of personal best times \u2013 Dean\u2019s happy that\u2019s for sure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bohl is hoping the success continues when he takes his senior team \u2013 led by 2015 World Champion <strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211;
