While a number of swimmers came up just short of Olympic Trials cuts, three had celebratory swims, all while swimming in the same heat!<\/p>\n<p>The top three finishers in the men&#8217;s 100 butterfly earned their Olympic Trials cuts. Chelsea Piers&#8217;\u00a0<strong>John Montesi\u00a0<\/strong>touched first in 54.03. Second place finisher\u00a0<strong>Michael Dugan\u00a0<\/strong>of Buffalo Area and third place\u00a0<strong>Drew Modrov\u00a0<\/strong>of Swimmin just slid under the 54.79 standard, as the two finished in 54.73 and 54.76.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Makayla Sargent\u00a0<\/strong>and Scarlet&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matea Samardzic\u00a0<\/strong>had a close race in the women&#8217;s 200 freestyle, finishing 2:03.53 to 2:03.74. Buffalo Area&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Claire O&#8217;Mara\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 2:04.46.<\/p>\n<p>Sargent destroyed the 400 IM at the end of the meet, winning the event in a 4:46.53, a two second drop, and well under the 4:54.99 Trials standard. SOLO&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bryanna Cameron\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 4:56.57.\u00a0<strong>Kelly Montesi\u00a0<\/strong>of Chelsea Piers was third with a 5:03.44.<\/p>\n<p>Cape Cod&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jarrett Jones\u00a0<\/strong>was first to the wall in the men&#8217;s 200 freestyle, touching in 1:53.75.\u00a0<strong>Kieran Smith\u00a0<\/strong>of Ridgefield finished second in 1:54.12. Victor&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jared Ritz\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a time of 1:56.29.<\/p>\n<p>Smith later won the 400 IM in 4:26.04. Scarlet&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Gomez\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 4:26.92 and Jones was third in 4:27.04. The top three swimmers were under the Trials cut, though they each had\u00a0previously met the standard.<\/p>\n<p>Aspault Green&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sophia Zhang\u00a0<\/strong>came up just short of the Trials cut in the 100 breaststroke. The 14 year old finished in 1:11.53, just off the 1:11.49 standard. A pair of 15 year olds,\u00a0<strong>Mary Christensen\u00a0<\/strong>of Chelsea Piers&#8217; and\u00a0<strong>Olivia Jack\u00a0<\/strong>of Clifton Park-Halfmoon completed the podium with times of 1:11.63 and 1:12.80.<\/p>\n<p>There was another close call in the men&#8217;s 100 breaststroke, as the top three swimmers were within three tenths of the 1:03.69 Trials cut.\u00a0<strong>Garrett\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Clarke\u00a0<\/strong>was the closest, finishing in 1:03.70.\u00a0<strong>Luke Otto\u00a0<\/strong>of Star Swimming touched in 1:03.78 while\u00a0<strong>Noah Stevens\u00a0<\/strong>of Victor Swim Club finished in 1:03.96.<\/p>\n<p>Fairport Area Swim Team&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Amelia Bullock\u00a0<\/strong>won the women&#8217;s 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.26. Central Jersey&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Helen Grossman\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in 1:02.14.\u00a0<strong>Lauryn Johnson\u00a0<\/strong>of Long Island rounded out the podium with a time of 1:02.48.<\/p>\n<p>Asphalt Green took a close women&#8217;s 800 freestyle relay with the team of\u00a0<strong>Isabel Gormley<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Nicole Aarts<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mary-Mckenzie Grier<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Tiffany Lara <\/strong>touching in 8:30.26, just ahead of Berkeley Aquatic Club&#8217;s 8:30.60. O&#8217;Mara,\u00a0<strong>Cristina Barrett<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Natalie Ward<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Erica Wirth\u00a0<\/strong>swam that relay. Third went to Victor Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alyssa Helak<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Erin Ritz<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Taryn Wisner<\/strong>, and Sargent in 8:34.26.<\/p>\n<p>Scarlet Aquatics took the men&#8217;s 800 freestyle relay in 7:57.84 with the team of\u00a0<strong>Eric Wong<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Austin Lee<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Siwoo Park<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Gomez<\/strong>. Second went to Asphault Green&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Devon French,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Dylan Porges<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Morgan Wolfe<\/strong>, and Glas in an 8:02.53.
