GREENVILLE, North Carolina, October 25. THE East Carolina swimming and diving teams won three of four dual meets over the weekend with the men posting wins over Georgetown (144-82) and Towson (203-95), while the ladies defeated Georgetown (145-89) before succumbing to Towson (102-198). <\/p>\n
With its two victories, the men's team improved its overall record this season to 4-1, while the ladies suffered their first loss of the year Saturday to drop to 5-1 overall. <\/p>\n
Against Georgetown on Friday, ECU set seven McCarthy Pool records. Kelsey Brosi, Jessica Brinkley, Amanda Duncan and Jenna Stewart combined to set a new mark in the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.03). <\/p>\n
Brosi and Duncan joined Rachel Blue and Kali Gaskill to establish a new record in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.11) as did the men's team of Ailton Temotio, Adam Papendick, Thiago Cavalcanti, and Jason Guzewich (1:24.56). Blue also earned first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.40). <\/p>\n
Duncan got her name in the record book for a third time by winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.62. Stewart also set an individual record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.45, while claiming first place in the 50-yard freestyle (24.36). Jackie Jones set a new ladies' mark in the 200-yard IM (2:08.95) as well as taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.60). <\/p>\n
Cavalcanti registered a pool record-breaking time of 1:43.03 in the 200-free, while Temotio placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.65). Other Friday night winners included: Brennan Gaeckle (1,000-free), Billy Gordon (1,000-free), Roman Sandler (200 IM), Katie Yamamoto (One-meter diving), Cliff Kohut (One-meter diving), Andrew Stoker (100-fly), Tommy Ryan (100-breast). <\/p>\n
Cavalcanti continued to have a dominating weekend on Saturday as he won three individual events and was a member of a winning relay team in the men's victory over Towson. Cavalcanti finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:46.13 before earning a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:44.08 seconds. After winning the 500-yard freestyle in 4:39.09, Cavalcanit helped the Pirates win the 400-yard freestyle relay by swimming the third leg for the victorious team, which posted a time of 3:08.51 seconds. <\/p>\n
Temotio finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.55 seconds before taking a victory in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.95 seconds. Ryan took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.17 seconds before earning first place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:10.08. <\/p>\n
Junior James Mehaffey won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.00 while Stoker won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.62. Freshman Travis Stauder posted a time of 1.58.27 to earn first place in the 200-yard IM. <\/p>\n
Freshman Meghan Coyne led the Pirates in the loss to Towson by winning the one-meter diving event with 254.32 points while Duncan earned first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.82 seconds. <\/p>\n
The Pirates return to dual meet competition Saturday, Nov. 8, against College of Charleston. The meet is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at the Minges Aquatic Center. <\/p>\n
