PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, October 16. SOPHOMORE Adam Maczewski and senior Andrzej Dubiel earned three first-place performances, a piece, as the University of Pittsburgh men's swimming and diving team defeated St. Bonaventure, 158-125, in Pitt's annual \u2018Pink the Pool' meet at Trees Pool. Pitt evened its record to 1-1 on the season.<\/p>\n
In the first race of the day, Pitt's 400 medley relay took first with a time of 3:24.79. The squad was made up of Maczewski, freshman Robert Power, senior Alex McLaren and Dubiel. Maczewski was the only backstroker to finish under 50 seconds, while Dubiel's anchor free was the fasted of the field at 45.85.<\/p>\n
Maczewski later won the 100 and 200 back events. He took the 100 back at 50.37. His time was two seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Later, his 200 back time of 1:52.69 led all swimmers. Senior Bobby Smith was second in both events (52.39, 1:54.82).<\/p>\n
Later, Dubiel won the 50 and 100 free. In the 50 free, he edged out two others with a time of 21.22. Then in the 100 free, he went 46.35 for the win. Junior Jakob Van Roekel trailed for second in the 100 free.<\/p>\n
Power was another member of the opening relay to earn an individual first-place finish. Power won the 100 breast at 58.55. He was the only swimmer to keep both of his 50 splits under 31 seconds. Junior Ben Solari and freshman Pierre-Antoine Meunier followed for second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n
Meunier also won an individual event. He was the quickest to the wall in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.56.
\nFollowing yesterday's performance, freshman Morne Boshoff repeated as the 1,000 free winner, claiming a first-place finish of 9:47.71, this afternoon. Jared Kolwyck finished second in the event. Boshoff also turned in a 4:43.52 finish in the 500 free.<\/p>\n
Van Roekel was the first to the wall in the 200 free, claiming a first-place performance of 1:43.89. Freshman Alexander Rodenkirk trailed slightly for second in the same event.<\/p>\n
Junior Rousseau Kluever touched the wall at 1:54.82 in the 200 fly, claiming nearly a three-second victory over second place.<\/p>\n
McLaren touched the wall first in the 100 fly (51.43), while Power was the first to the wall in the 200 IM (1:56.46).<\/p>\n
Senior Collin Forner was impressive in the 3M diving event, scoring 341.70 points. He was the lone diver to break the 300 point mark, as classmate Zane McLain finished second with 292.05 points. Sophomore Erik Moore gave the Panthers a sweep by scoring 286.95 points for third. Later, McLain scored 261.98 points on the 1M board.<\/p>\n
Next, the Panthers travel to Big East rival Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 22, for a noon meet against the Fighting Irish.<\/p>\n
