LAS VEGAS, Nevada, November 13. UNLV freshmen Jessica Heim and Katelyne Herrington combined to win five individual events and lead the Rebels to a 156-144 Mountain West Conference dual meet victory over Colorado State on Saturday afternoon in Buchanan Natatorium. The win was the first for UNLV over the Rams since 2007-08, and improved the Rebels' record to 3-3 overall, 2-1 in the conference. <\/p>\n
UNLV led right from the first event, thanks to first place finishes in the first three events of the meet. The day's first event actually saw a tie for first place in the 200 medley relay, between the Rams' A team and UNLV's quartet of Brittany Ozar, Lisa Gillespie, Herrington and Rachel Dixon, who touched the wall in 1:45.39. Heim then won the next event for UNLV, the 1000 free, in a time of 10:18.90. Her other victories came in the 200 fly (2:04.13) and in the 500 free (5:00.09). <\/p>\n
Lara Sreibers followed the 1000 free with a first-place swim in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.07. Mariah Skeen posted a key win on the 1-meter diving with a score of 283.73, while Herrington won the 100 free in 52.99. Her other victory on the day came in the 100 fly, a swim of 55.94. The meet would come down to the final event, as with the Rebels holding a seven-point lead and needing to post at least a second-place finish in the 400 free relay, the Rebels would win the event by over three seconds. Herrington, Sreibers, Dixon and Heim made up the winning relay squad and finished in a time of 3:28.00. <\/p>\n
UNLV will return to action next week as it will compete in the Arena Cup on Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 18-20 in Long Beach, Calif. <\/p>\n
