THE College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recently announced its academic success rankings for the Division I level.<\/p>\n<p>As they have so often in the past, the two Ivy League schools battled for the number one ranking.  This time, Yale, coached by Frank Keefe, took the women&#39;s crown with a 3.608 team grade point average, just edging Rick Pratt&#39;s New Mexico State women at 3.566 and Jim Wilson&#39;s Dartmouth women at 3.560. <\/p>\n<p>Dartmouth&#39;s Big Green men had a team GPA of 3.600 to claim the top men&#39;s spot with Yale second at 3.500 and Georgetown, coached by Steve Cartwright, third at 3.376.<\/p>\n<p>Dartmouth took the combined men&#39;s and women&#39;s title with a stunning 3.580 GPA.  Yale followed closely with a 3.552 with Lafayette College, coached by Jim Dailey, third in 3.442.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, East Coast teams dominated the team rankings, taking the top four spots and eight of the top 10 in the combined listings.  A total of 125 teams \u2013 81 women&#39;s and 44 men&#39;s &#8212; bettered the minimum team GPA requirement of 3.000.<\/p>\n<p>The Division I women, fast in the water, excelled just as spectacularly in the classroom, with 91 women earning individual honors by achieving a GPA of 3.500 or higher and qualifying for the NCAA Championships.  Thirty-one men also earned AAA honors.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-four women and four men scored a perfect 4.000 grade point average.  Interestingly, Richard Quick&#39;s Auburn Tigers had an amazing nine student-athletes \u2013 six women and three men \u2013 with perfect 4.0&#39;s.  <\/p>\n<p>Texas A&#038;M had three 4.0&#39;s while George, Minnesota and SMU had two each, all women.<\/p>\n<p><i>Special thanks to the CSCAA for contributing this report.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Complete team and individual listings follow:<br \/>\nTop 10 Combined NCAA Div.
