class=\"aQJ\">tonight<\/span><\/span>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Fina World Junior Champion broke his own 17 years Australian Age and Australian Age All-Comers record in the 50 metres freestyle on the opening night of the 2016 Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Championships.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The 17-year-old from Marion clocked a personal best time of 22.15 to take out the 17 years 50 metres freestyle.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The dual Fina World Junior champion, is using the meet as a final hit out in his preparation for his tilt at the 50 and 100m freestyle events at next week\u2019s Race To Rio meet, starting at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1311869339\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Thursday<\/span><\/span> (<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1311869340\"><span class=\"aQJ\">April 7<\/span><\/span>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The 2016 Olympic Team will be nominated to the Australian Olympic Committee at the end of the eight-day meet on <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1311869341\"><span class=\"aQJ\">April 14<\/span><\/span>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Chalmers powered off the blocks <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1311869342\"><span class=\"aQJ\">tonight<\/span><\/span> and hung on in a tight finish to break his own Australian marks from the fast finishing Jack Cartwright (St Peters Western, QLD) who clocked 22.55 with Jake Kersten (TSS Aquatics, QLD) third in 22.78.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The powerfully build South Australian teenager will also contest the 17-18-years 200m freestyle in the Age Championships later in the week as he puts the finishing touches to his preparation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Chalmers made his senior debut as\u00a0 member of the Australian 4x100m freestyle relay squad at the 2015 Fina World Championships in Kazan, Russia, to launch his international career.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>His 50m freestyle record was one of two records set on the opening night of eight days of the Australian Age Championships which has attracted over 1700 athletes from 296 clubs.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It went to <strong>Daniel Cave<\/strong> (Melbourne Vicentre, VIC) who clocked 1:01.87 to set a new Australian 17 years record in the 100m breaststroke \u2013 a record set by <strong>Simon Cowley<\/strong> 18 years ago when he won the gold medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Cave timed his finish to perfection to come from behind to beat Samuel Williamson (Firbank Aquastars, VIC), 1:02.41 and Liam Hunter (Chandler, QLD) 1:02.43.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em>Swimming Australia contributed this
