Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this NCAA meet will be remembered for the sheer amount of record-breaking performances, it should also be remembered as a meet of firsts for many colleges. Several swimmers and divers became the first NCAA champions from their respective institutions, with many doing it in dramatic fashion. Most memorable would be Penn senior <\/span><b>Chris Swanson, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chris-swanson-gives-penn-its-1st-ncaa-title-with-blazing-final-50-in-1650-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who overcame a three-second deficit going into the last 50 to win the 1,650 free by .12-seconds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/penns-chris-swanson-discusses-his-epic-finish-in-the-1650\/\"><b>Swanson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">became the first title-winner by a Penn swimmer in school history<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the first Ivy League champion at NCAA\u2019s since 1990. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After finishing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-demolishes-ncaa-u-s-open-record-800-free-relay-608\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2nd to Texas in the 800 free relay<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-wins-200-free-relay-caeleb-dressel-smokes-18-24-leadoff\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">200 free relay<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Wolfpack got revenge in the 400 free relay, winning by just four one-hundredths of a second. The team of <\/span><b>Ryan Held<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (41.82), <\/span><b>Simonas Bilis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (40.80), <\/span><b>Andreas Schiellerup<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (42.10), and <\/span><b>Soeren Dahl<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (42.09) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nc-state-wins-1st-ever-ncaa-relay-title-with-close-triumph-against-texas-in-400-free-relay\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the finale in a close battle with Texas, holding off a charging <\/span><b>Jack Conger <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to win 2:46.81 to 2:46.85<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Burned in the past two years by DQ\u2019s at NCAA\u2019s, NC State has long been in the hunt for an NCAA relay title but have been unable to deliver. In an interview after day four finals, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/video-interview-simonas-bilis-talks-emotional-relay-win-for-nc-state\/\"><b>Simonas Bilis <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">described the absolute joy at finally capturing that team relay title<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including the nerves they had after the results were declared unofficial after the race (Cal\u2019s relay was later disqualified). Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Caeleb Dressel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">once again became the fastest man in the pool this week, lowering his American and NCAA record en route to victories in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-wins-200-free-relay-caeleb-dressel-smokes-18-24-leadoff\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Missing his NCCA and American record in the 50 freestyle in his first three attempts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on day two of the meet, <\/span><b>Dressel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bested it on his last chance when <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/caeleb-dressel-blazes-way-to-18-20-american-ncaa-mark\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he won the individual 50 freestyle title in 18.20 to once again swim the fastest 50 freestyle in history<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While the record itself is again mind boggling (<\/span><b>Dressel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 50 by a staggering .64 seconds over <\/span><b>Simonas Bilis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Florida coach <\/span><b>Gregg Troy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">noted how the consistency <\/span><b>Dressel\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">swims really set him apart. Later in what was a historic finals session on the last night of the meet, <\/span><b>Dressel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bested both <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/caeleb-dressel-posts-american-record-unloads-3rd-fastest-100-free-ever\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his American record of 41.07 from SEC\u2019s last month<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and cleared <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sizzling-siberian-vlad-morozov-sweeps-sprint-frees-with-ncaa-mark\/\"><b>Vlad Morozov\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NCAA record of 40.76 from 2013<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/caeleb-dressel-unleashes-4046-ncaa-american-record-100-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he touched in 40.46 to take the 100 freestyle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cal Berkeley junior <\/span><b>Ryan Murphy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rewrote the record books for the backstroke events at NCAA\u2019s this week. First, the Cal Bear broke his own NCAA record and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/video-nick-thoman-sets-american-record-in-100-back\/\"><b>Nick Thoman\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American record<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> leading off <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-murphy-crushes-100-back-american-ncaa-record-with-43-51\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cal\u2019s 400 Medley Relay in 43.51<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That made <\/span><b>Murphy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the first man under 44.0 in the 100 backstroke, but he wasn\u2019t done with the event there. Later on in the finals of the individual 100 back, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/43-49-from-ryan-murphy-to-break-ncaa-american-record-in-100-back\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he lowered his record again with a 43.49 en route to a ridiculous two second win<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the event. That gives <\/span><b>Murphy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his third straight win in the event.
