California’s Ryan Murphy<\/strong> unloaded an NCAA and American record time of 1:35.73 as he broke through the 1:36 barrier in the men’s 200-yard back at the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Championships.<\/p>\n

Murphy’s time smashed his previous record of 1:36.77 set last year here at NCAAs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Murphy has now won both the 100 back and 200 back all three of his years in college, and is in place to match John Naber as the most dominant collegiate backstroker ever.<\/p>\n

Murphy kept his 200 back\u00a0career sweep chance intact to join John Naber<\/strong> and Yoshi Oyakawa <\/strong>as only the third swimmer to claim the 200 back NCAA Title their entire career.<\/p>\n
