As a sophomore this year, a win by Dressel would keep him on the path to making history as no one has ever accomplished a career sweep of the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Multiple 50 Free will attempt to dethrone Dressel. \u00a0NC State&#8217;s <strong>Simonas Bilis<\/strong>, who moved to ninth all time with an 18.76 relay leadoff earlier in the morning, posted an 18.79 for the second seed in the individual event.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Paul Powers<\/strong> also cleared 19 with an 18.99 for the third seed. \u00a0He is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/race-video-paul-powers-blazes-to-big-ten-record-18-85\/\" target=\"_blank\">ranked 14th all time with an 18.85 from Big Tens last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s <strong>Ryan Held<\/strong> (19.01), Missouri&#8217;s <strong>Michael Chadwick<\/strong> (19.06), Georgia&#8217;s<strong> Michael Trice<\/strong> (19.16) and Texas&#8217; <strong>John Murray<\/strong> (19.17) also safely made it into finals.<\/p>\n<p>Auburn&#8217;s <strong>Peter Holoda<\/strong>, Texas&#8217; <strong>Brett Ringgold<\/strong> and Alabama&#8217;s <strong>Kristian Gkolomeev<\/strong> set up a threeway swimoff for eighth with 19.18s.<\/p>\n<p>Gkolomeev, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/like-kissing-your-sister-alabamas-kristian-gkolomeev-arizonas-brad-tandy-tie-in-50-free\/\" target=\"_blank\">the 2014 50 free victor alongside
