PHOENIX, Arizona, October 16. WHILE there are not many results yet in this young 2008-09 season, the pollsters have met and voted for the first time as part of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America dual meet rankings. <\/p>\n
The top team in each poll is different than the final poll of 2007-08. The Arizona Wildcats are the voter's favorite on the women's side and the Texas Longhorns hold the opinion of the men's voters. There are a lot of familiar teams throughout the rankings. Forty-four of the combined fifty programs ranked in this inaugural poll were ranked at the end of last season. In fact, Utah's women are the only team that didn't receive a vote throughout the entire 2007-08 season and the Alabama women hasn't received any votes since November 15, 2007.<\/p>\n
This year's poll will be published eight times and the champion will be crowned on February 26, 2009. Pollsters representing eight conferences along with two at-large voters have the task of ranking the top dual meet teams in the nation throughout the season. Additionally, the group of pollsters is completely different for the men's and women's rankings. This poll should not be confused with the results of the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving championships that will take place in March.<\/p>\n
