{"id":191790,"date":"2016-03-22T12:01:08","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T19:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=191790"},"modified":"2016-03-22T12:01:08","modified_gmt":"2016-03-22T19:01:08","slug":"sean-schimmel-resigns-as-head-coach-of-arkansas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sean-schimmel-resigns-as-head-coach-of-arkansas\/","title":{"rendered":"Sean Schimmel Resigns as Head Coach of Arkansas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arkansas swimming and diving head coach <strong>Sean Schimmel<\/strong> has resigned from his position with the Razorbacks effective immediately, the university announced today.<\/p>\n<p>This took place following Schimmel&#8217;s fourth season as the head coach of the Razorbacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate the four years Coach Schimmel invested in our women\u2019s swimming and diving program and wish him the best as he moves forward in his career,\u201d Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics <strong>Jeff Long<\/strong> said. \u201cWe will conduct a national search to find a leader who will put us in the position to compete in the SEC and on the national level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schimmel came to Arkansas after his time was cut short at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-maryland-swimming-and-diving-projected-to-be-cut\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland when they cut the swimming program there<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Razorbacks finished ninth and 10th\u00a0at the Southeastern Conference Championships\u00a0in the last two seasons under Schimmel after he led the team to back-to-back sixth-place finishes his first two years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arkansas swimming and diving head coach Sean Schimmel has resigned from his position with the Razorbacks effective immediately, the university announced today.
