{"id":191757,"date":"2016-03-22T09:00:01","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T16:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=191757"},"modified":"2016-03-22T08:36:11","modified_gmt":"2016-03-22T15:36:11","slug":"performance-of-the-week-lilly-kings-100-breaststroke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/performance-of-the-week-lilly-kings-100-breaststroke\/","title":{"rendered":"Performance Of The Week: Lilly King&#8217;s 100 Breaststroke"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Lilly King<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had the meet of her life this past week at the Women&#8217;s Division I NCAA Championships, becoming the first Hoosier to capture two individual national championship titles in the school\u2019s history when she <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lilly-king-crashes-through-57-second-barrier-in-100-breast-with-ncaa-american-record-56-85\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 100<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lilly-king-obliterates-204-barrier\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">200 breaststroke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in NCAA and American record-breaking fashion. While both of her records were historic and somewhat mind boggling, the Performance of the Week has to go to her 100-yard breaststroke, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lilly-king-crashes-through-57-second-barrier-in-100-breast-with-ncaa-american-record-56-85\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where she became the first woman to break the 57-second barrier en route to capturing the title<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The freshman from Indiana has improved dramatically this year, coming into her first collegiate season with a best of 59.63 from the Indiana High School Girls State Championships. Hitting a 1:06.69 long course swim at 2015 Summer Nationals signaled she was set up for a good short course season, but nobody could have predicted the year she had. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ius-lilly-king-unloads-4th-fastest-100-breast-ever\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hitting a 57.35 at Big 10\u2019s that just barely missed<\/span><\/a> <b>Breeja Larson\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> American and NCAA record of 57.23, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lilly-king-downs-american-ncaa-record-100-breast-57-15\/\"><b>King <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">made it official in prelims of NCAA\u2019s when she posted a 57.15 to sneak by the record<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later that night, <\/span><b>King <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">made history again by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lilly-king-crashes-through-57-second-barrier-in-100-breast-with-ncaa-american-record-56-85\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">becoming the first woman under 57-seconds in the 100 yard breaststroke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, something <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lilly-king-ncaas-new-breaststroke-queen-expected-a-56\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">she has had her sights on all year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While she still has three more NCAA\u2019s in front of her, this swim sets up <\/span><b>King <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to be only the second woman to complete a career sweep of the event through her collegiate career. Stanford\u2019s <\/span><b>Tara Kirk, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the long-time American record holder before <\/span><b>Larson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with a 57.77, won the event from 2001-2004. As someone <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/video-interview-lilly-king-on-two-american-records-in-one-day\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who fancies herself a long-course swimmer who is a veritable \u201cswim geek\u201d (her words, not ours!)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Lilly King <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is surely one to watch this summer at Olympic Trials. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Congratulations <\/span><b>Lilly King<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on earning <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swimming World\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Performance of the
