DENVER, Colorado, October 15. THE University of Denver men's and women's swim teams kicked of the season in victorious fashion claiming two wins over visiting Wyoming on Saturday afternoon at the El Pomar Natatorium.<\/p>\n
"This was a fun way to begin the season," said swim head coach Brian Schrader. "I'm proud of our efforts and am glad to walk away with two wins. We look forward to taking this into dual season."<\/p>\n
The Pioneer women captured eight first-place finishes on their way to a 208-172 victory. The men recorded six first-place finishes defeating Wyoming 194-168.<\/p>\n
The Pioneer women got off to a fast start in the 200 Medley Relay as the team of Alex Suppan (Burlington, Vt.), Kyrene Clarke (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Bailey Beins (Wichita, Kan.) and Rachel Burns (Tampa, Fla.) swam a time of 1:44.19, narrowly edging out second place Wyoming's time of 1:44. 65.<\/p>\n
The men's 1500 3×500 Freestyle team of Clayton Myers (Arvada, Colo.), Jorge Palma (Caracas, Venezuela) and Jeremiah Zgliczynski (Littleton, Colo.) finished an impressive 11 seconds better than Wyoming with a time of 14:11.43 to give the men their first top finish of the day.<\/p>\n
The women's 400 Medley Relay made up of Suppan, Anna Labozan (Superior, Colo.), Clark, and Kirsten Milberg (Littleton, Colo.) recorded a first place finish with a time of 3:58.29, the only team to post a time under four minutes.<\/p>\n
In the men's 300 3×100 Breaststroke Relay DU's team of Tanner Krall (Pueblo, Colo.), Mark Maguire (Denver, Colo.) and Robert Barrett (Scottsdale, Ariz.) edged out Wyoming with a time of 2:54.22 to place first.<\/p>\n
The day was capped off with the 400 Freestyle Relays. The women's team composed of Burns, Labozan, Kristin Schmid (Aurora, Colo.) and Bridgette McNally (Lone Tree, Colo.) earned the 14 first place points with a time of 3:29.68. The men's team of Kyle Milberg (Littleon, Colo.), Nick Iwanicki (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), Daniel Ettelson (San Diego, Calif.) and Palma finished in second with a time of 3:07.34, 1.4 second behind Wyoming.<\/p>\n
The Pioneer women will next travel up to Fort Collins, to swim against Colorado State on October 22. The full squad will then head west to face UC Santa Barbara (October 28) and Cal Poly (October 29). <\/p>\n
