NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana, October 10. THE University of New Orleans (Division I) claimed a pair of triumphs over Incarnate Word (Division II) in the initial SwimmingWorldMagazine.com<\/b> Dual Meet of the Week in the third season of the program.<\/p>\n
The men claimed a close 150-142 victory for the first dual meet win in the history of the program, which was recently reinstated after a 16-year hiatus. The women, meanwhile, claimed a 183-114 conquest of UIW.<\/p>\n
In the men's meet, UNO's Petar Petrovic and UIW's Blake McKay and Sean Reeves led the way with a title trifecta each.<\/p>\n
McKay eclipsed a B-cut threshold in the men's 100-yard breaststroke when he touched in 58.22 to win the event for UIW. He followed up with a daily double when he not only won the 200-yard breast in 2:08.79, he did so with a B-cut time. He also led the team of Alec Bobst, McKay, Sean Reeves and Luke Bernhard to a 400-yard medley relay win in 3:31.71.<\/p>\n
Sean Reeves posted another B cut for UIW with a winning effort of 51.36 in the men's 100-yard butterfly, while walking away with the win in the men's 200-yard butterfly in 1:57.16.<\/p>\n
Petrovic touched first in the men's 100-yard backstroke (51.47), men's 200-yard backstroke (1:56.09) and helped the squad of Jarryd Gregoire, Jake Van Roekel, Petrovic and Birkir Johnsson to a win in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:09.24.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Incarnate Word's Alex Yatsko (1:41.74) cleared the DII B-cut standard in the men's 200-yard freestyle during a 1-2 finish for UIW. Patrick Cardenas just missed the cut with a 1:44.54 for second place.<\/p>\n
For the women, Cristina Lay pocketed four titles during the meet for UNO, while Eva Hannesdottir picked up three wins.<\/p>\n
Lay began the meet with a victory when Ashley McClelland, Lay, Lindsey Townsend and Tess Sweatman hit the wall in 4:01.25 in the women's 400-yard medley relay. She then claimed the women's 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.37, while also winning the 100-yard butterfly (59.84) and 200-yard IM (2:11.77).<\/p>\n
Hannesdottir's conquests came in the women's 200-yard freestyle (1:57.82), 100-yard freestyle (54.21) and as the anchor of the Sarah Gros, Sweatman, Ashley Aranda and Hannesdottir squad that clocked a 3:40.32 in the women's 400-yard freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
In other action, Paulina Alexander of UIW beat the B cut in the women's 1000-yard freestyle with a triumphant 10:44.10. In a third-place effort, Lesley Murray of UIW punched the clock in 2:10.79 to edge the B cut in the women's 200-yard butterfly.<\/p>\n
UNO's Kelly Swartzbaugh swept the women's diving crowns with tallies of 226.35 and 185.18 in the one-meter and three-meter, respectively. UNO's Johny DeMaine (249.38) and Jonathan Field (257.03) earned wins in men's one-meter and three-meter events, respectively.<\/p>\n
