STANFORD, California, October 10. THE Stanford women's swimming team (2-0, 1-0 Pac-10) opened its Pac-10 dual meet schedule by rolling to a 151-102 win over visiting Oregon State (0-1, 0-1 Pac-10) this afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center. The meet was contested in a 25-yard short course format, and featured 14 events. <\/p>\n
With today's victory, the Cardinal women have won 11 straight home dual meets, and are 19-1 in their last 20 dual meets overall. <\/p>\n
Stanford received a balanced effort, with eight different swimmers winning an individual event. The Cardinal victory was highlighted by a pair of NCAA "B" standard times, as junior Julia Smit won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.00 and sophomore Liz Smith captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.46. Smit also swam a 9:40.86 to win the 1,000 freestyle. <\/p>\n
Cardinal freshman Sam Woodward won a pair of individual events for the second consecutive meet, swimming to victory in the 200 butterfly (1:59.87) and 100 free (51.09). Other Stanford swimmers to post individual event victories were freshman Jessica Rodriquez in the 200 free (1:50.88), junior Kelley Hug in the 100 back (56.26), sophomore Kerry Kraemer in the 100 breast (1:04.95), sophomore Kate Dwelley in the 50 free (23.83) and freshman Angela Duckworth in the 500 free (4:55.06). <\/p>\n
After Oregon State opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay, Stanford cemented its eighth straight victory in an October dual meet by capturing the next 10 events in succession. <\/p>\n
The Stanford women's swimming and diving team is next in action on Friday, October 17, as the Cardinal travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a tri-meet with the Florida Gators and the host Michigan Wolverines.<\/p>\n
