﻿{"id":191328,"date":"2016-03-19T17:40:16","date_gmt":"2016-03-20T00:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=191328"},"modified":"2020-02-20T19:05:13","modified_gmt":"2020-02-21T02:05:13","slug":"usc-wins-2nd-ncaa-relay-title-ever-georgia-clinches-7th-ncaa-team-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-wins-2nd-ncaa-relay-title-ever-georgia-clinches-7th-ncaa-team-title\/","title":{"rendered":"USC Wins 2nd NCAA Relay Title Ever; Georgia Clinches 7th NCAA Team Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>USC raced its way to the program&#8217;s second NCAA relay title ever, while Georgia delivered Jack Bauerle his seventh NCAA team title with a second-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Division I Women&#8217;s Championships.<\/p>\n<p>USC&#8217;s <strong>Kasia Wilk, Kirsten Vose, Chelsea Chenault and Anika Apostalon<\/strong> back-loaded their relay en route to winning in 3:09.69.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s USC&#8217;s second NCAA relay title ever, and first since\u00a0USC\u2019s 1994 800-yard free relay\u00a0won in 7:11.89:<\/p>\n<p>1994 Southern California (Jennifer Stephen, Kristine Quance, Ulrika Reinholdt, Ayako Nakano), 7:11.89<\/p>\n<p>Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Olivia Smoliga, Brittany MacLean, Meaghan Raab and Hali Flickinger<\/strong> finished second in 3:10.82 as they did what they needed to do to hold off a final-day charge from Stanford to win Georgia&#8217;s seventh NCAA title. \u00a0<strong>That&#8217;s Jack Bauerle&#8217;s<\/strong> seventh in 37 years at the helm of the Bulldogs, tying him with <strong>Richard Quick<\/strong> for the most titles at a single school. Quick won a total of 12 women&#8217;s NCAA titles, but did so between Stanford (7) and Texas (5).<\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s <strong>Beryl Gastaldello, Kristin Malone, Claire Rasmus and Sarah Gibson<\/strong> took third in 3:11.91.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford, needing to win the event and have Georgia finish seventh or worse to win the NCAA title, finished fourth with a 3:12.08.<\/p>\n<pre><b>                             === A -
