Colorado Springs, CO – The 2000 USA Water Polo Annual Meeting, which will be held January 11-15, 2001 in Los Alamitos, CA, will determine the future course of USA Water Polo. This post-Olympic Annual meeting is where
\nvirtually all volunteer leadership positions of the organization will be up for election. <\/p>\n
"This is clearly the most important meeting of the next four years," said Jim Linehan, Chair of the Rules Committee of USA Water Polo. "It is the Board of Directors and Executive Council that set the policies and direction of USA Water Polo. The Officers and a majority of Directors will be selected at this meeting. In addition, all the key decisions that will affect USA Water Polo for the next four years will be discussed and determined at this meeting – from the make up of the Executive Council and Board of Directors to the selection of national team coaches, budgeting priorities and staff directions." <\/p>\n
The Board of Delegates, elected at the local level of the nine (9) geographic Zones of USA Water Polo, will elect the Officer positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer (who automatically becomes chair of the Finance Committee) of USA Water Polo. <\/p>\n
The Board of Delegates ratifies Committee Members of Standing Committees except Athletes Committee Members and members of Committees elected to Standing Committees by other Standing Committees.<\/p>\n
The Board of Directors elects the USA Water Polo representative to the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the USA Water Polo representative to
\nAmateur Swimming Union of the Americas (ASUA), recommends, but not elects, representatives to Federation International de Natation Amateur (FINA) and provides final authorization for the selection of the national team coaches of both USA Water Polo's men's and women' teams.<\/p>\n
The President will appoint a Trustee to sit on the USA Water Polo Foundation (The Endowment created by the surplus of funds from the 1984 Olympic Games).<\/p>\n
Except for the Finance Committee, all USA Water Polo Standing Committees shall elect their own Chairs.<\/p>\n
The Athletes Committee, selects a Chair (who will automatically serve on the Board of Directors and the Executive Council) and six Athletes to serve on
\nthe Board of Directors (3 men and 3 women). From these six, the Athletes Committee will select a second athlete to serve on the Executive Council. The Athletes Committee will also nominate a Trustee to serve on the USA Water Polo Foundation (The Endowment created by the surplus of funds from the 1984
\nOlympic Games.)<\/p>\n
The National Coaches Committee elects a chair who will serve on the Executive Council, 4 level VI Coaches to the Men's Olympic Committee and 4 Coaches who
\npredominately coach women's water polo programs to the Women's Olympic Committee.<\/p>\n
The Referees Committee elects one FINA rated referee to the Men's Olympic Committee and one FINA rated referee to the Women's Olympic Committee.<\/p>\n
The Chairs of the USA Water Polo Zones will elect a Chair of Zone Chairs to a position on the Executive Council. <\/p>\n
The American Water Polo Coaches Association (AWPCA) will elect six Coaches to the USA Water Polo Board of Directors (3 who coach men's programs and 3 who coach women's programs). The AWPCA also elects seven (7) level VI Coaches to the USA Water Polo Coaches Committee. The AWPCA also approves the recommendation of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) for the ASCA position on the USA Water Polo Board of Directors.<\/p>\n
