TWO-time reigning <i>Swimming World Magazine<\/i> National Female High School Swimmer of the Year <a href=http:\/\/www.takeyourmarks.com\/swm661?id=4595 target=_blank>Mary Beck<\/a> made Teri McKeever&#39;s day recently as she switched her commitment from Texas to California.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I went on my last trip this past weekend to Cal and made a commitment there,&quot; Austin Westlake&#39;s Beck told <i>Swimming World<\/i>. &quot;It is a great school and was an absolutely perfect fit for me, and I am really looking forward to starting there in January.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Beck is a rare six-star prospect with some serious speed in the backstroke and IM events. She owns the overall national high school record in the 200-yard IM with a 1:56.45, and holds the public high school standard with a 53.03 in the 100-yard back. Last year, Beck had made an early verbal commitment to hometown Texas, but remained a soft verbal as she still took her official visits to other schools such as Indiana and Georgia before settling on California.<\/p>\n<p>As a mid-season recruit, Beck will slide right into an already stocked recruiting class at Cal this year. Six-star <a href=http:\/\/www.takeyourmarks.com\/swm661?id=4255 target=_blank>Liv Jensen<\/a>, and five-star <a href=http:\/\/www.takeyourmarks.com\/swm661?id=4252 target=_blank>Kirstyn Colonias<\/a> and <a href=http:\/\/www.takeyourmarks.com\/swm661?id=4254 target=_blank>Sara Isakovic<\/a> are other top notch freshmen competing for Cal this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTIN, Texas, October 5.
