{"id":191058,"date":"2016-03-20T14:00:11","date_gmt":"2016-03-20T21:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=191058"},"modified":"2020-02-20T18:58:24","modified_gmt":"2020-02-21T01:58:24","slug":"kelsi-worrell-demolishes-100-fly-ncaa-american-record-49-43","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kelsi-worrell-demolishes-100-fly-ncaa-american-record-49-43\/","title":{"rendered":"(Race Video) Kelsi Worrell Demolishes 100 Fly NCAA, American Record With 49.43"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Louisville&#8217;s <strong>Kelsi Worrell<\/strong> demolished her NCAA, U.S. Open and American record in the women&#8217;s 100-yard fly at the 2016 NCAA Division I Women&#8217;s Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Worrell, who went out in 23.09, came home in 26.34 to win in 49.43. \u00a0That performance obliterated her previous record of 49.81 to win NCAAs last year. \u00a0To think, it was amazing just a year ago when Worrell became the first person to crack <strong>Natalie Coughlin&#8217;s<\/strong> record of 50.01. \u00a0Within a year, Worrell is on the other side of being halfway to breaking 49 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Worrell is the only swimmer ever to break 50 seconds, and that&#8217;s the fourth time she&#8217;s done it. \u00a0Her splits for her now-former record for comparison&#8217;s sake:\u00a023.58, 49.81 (26.23).<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"100 FL Kelsi Worrell   AMERICAN RECORD\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/t-KIDE5v08M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Her victory was nearly record breaking in terms of how dominant it was. \u00a0She won by 1.18 seconds, nearly beating the record of 1.35 seconds set by Stanford&#8217;s Misty Hyman in 1998 when she beat North Carolina&#8217;s Richelle Fox (51.34 to 52.69).<\/p>\n<p>Worrell also joined another short list of names as a multiple winner in the 100 fly:<\/p>\n<p>4 \u2013 Natalie Coughlin, California<br \/>\n2 \u2013 Crissy Ahmann-Leighton, Arizona<br \/>\n2 \u2013 Mary DeScenza, Georgia<br \/>\n2 \u2013 Misty Hyman, Stanford<br \/>\n2 \u2013 Jenna Johnson, Stanford<br \/>\n2 \u2013 Mary T.
