MACOMB, Illinois, September 28. THE Western Illinois swimming and diving teams swept IUPUI, 176-112 in the women's events, and 163-128 in the men's events, on Saturday afternoon at Brophy Hall Pool to start the 2008-09 season.<\/p>\n
In men's diving, senior Anthony Holzhauer won the 1-meter event with a mark of 309.08 and teammate Eric Campbell finished second with a mark of 282.60. in the 3-meter event, Campbell placed first with a mark of 317.85 and Holzhauer took second with a mark of 302.03.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Molly Carrignan placed third in the 3-meter diving event with a mark of 195.60 and third in the 1-meter event with a mark of 178.36.<\/p>\n
In Westerwinds swimming, the 200-yard medley relay team of Alayna Colley, Taylor Martin, Shannon Nelson and Amanda Smith won the event with a time of 1:51.53. Three of four members of the relay also won an individual event. Martin won the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.66, Nelson placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.25 and Smith had a time of 25.56 to win the 50-yard freestyle.<\/p>\n
Freshman Alyssa Deffner won her first career race in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.56 and in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.12.<\/p>\n
Senior Amber Piercy won two events in the 1000-yard freestyle with a finish of 10:58.08 and in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.48. Sophomore Kaley Rowe also finished first in two events as she won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.56 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.78.<\/p>\n
On the men's side, the 400-yard freestyle team of Brandon Wilkinson, Phil Kurz, Jeff Davis and Mike Regan took first with a time of 3:20.08. Jeff Davis finished 20 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor in the 1000-yard freestyle to win the event with at time of 10:02.27. Kurz took first in 50 freestyle with a time of 22.51 and won the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 24.22.<\/p>\n
Wilkinson won his first career race in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.88 and in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.88.<\/p>\n
