report:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 800-yard freestyle relay kicked off the 2016 NCAA Division I Women&#8217;s Championships with Georgia winning its NCAA record-tying 8th team title in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Hali Flickinger<\/strong> (1:42.80), <strong>Kylie Stewart<\/strong> (1:43.95), <strong>Meaghan Raab<\/strong> (1:43.59) and <strong>Brittany MacLean<\/strong> (1:41.46) raced their way to victory in 6:51.80.<\/p>\n<p>That performance lowered the pool record of 6:58.83 that Texas A&amp;M had just set the previous heat. \u00a0A&amp;M had downed the 2015 mark of 7:00.93 set by Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s Georgia&#8217;s eighth team title in the event, tying them with Stanford at the top of the event&#8217;s 7:06.22<\/p>\n<p>Tonight&#8217;s victory for Georgia is its fifth win in the last seven years after California broke UGA&#8217;s four-year streak with a pair of wins.<\/p>\n<p>USC&#8217;s<strong> Kirsten Vose<\/strong> (1:43.08), <strong>Anika Apostalon<\/strong> (1:44.34),<strong> Chelsea Chenault<\/strong> (1:42.69) and <strong>Kasia Wilk<\/strong> (1:43.73) picked up second overall in 6:53.84 as the team was in place to compete with Georgia before MacLean unleashed her anchor leg.<\/p>\n<p>Although a two-second victory is a pretty wide margin, it&#8217;s not the biggest ever in the event at NCAAs. \u00a0Florida owns that NCAA record with a 7.96-second win in 1984 against Southern California (7:06.98 to 7:14.94).<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s <strong>Kathleen Baker<\/strong> (1:43.99), <strong>Elizabeth Pelton<\/strong> (1:44.07), <strong>Rachel Bootsma<\/strong> (1:44.23) and <strong>Amy Bilquist<\/strong> (1:42.89) claimed third tonight in the timed final event with a 6:55.18.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia (6:55.25), Texas A&amp;M (6:58.83), Stanford (6:59.19), Louisville (6:59.58) and Indiana (6:59.82) also made their way into the top eight in the
