{"id":190313,"date":"2016-03-13T10:49:05","date_gmt":"2016-03-13T17:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=190313"},"modified":"2016-03-14T07:33:35","modified_gmt":"2016-03-14T14:33:35","slug":"mie-nielsen-cranks-out-59-16-in-100-back-in-edinburgh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mie-nielsen-cranks-out-59-16-in-100-back-in-edinburgh\/","title":{"rendered":"Mie Nielsen Cranks Out 59.16 in 100 Back in Edinburgh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mie Nielsen<\/strong> blasted the women&#8217;s 100-meter back finale at the 2016 Edinburgh Invitational.<\/p>\n<p>Nielsen threw down a sizzling time of 59.16, going out in 28.95. \u00a0That performance shot her to second in the world <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cam-mcevoy-smokes-200-free-rie-kaneto-sets-japanese-record-in-perth\/\" target=\"_blank\">behind only <strong>Emily Seebohm&#8217;s<\/strong> 59.03 from the Aquatic Super Series<\/a>. <strong>Elizabeth Simmonds<\/strong> (1:00.40) and <strong>Jessica Fullalove<\/strong> (1:00.81) finished second and third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ruta Meilutyte<\/strong> demonstrated some consistency as she topped the women&#8217;s 50-meter breast tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Meilutyte had already jumped to the top of the world rankings in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ruta-meilutyte-blazes-way-to-2nd-in-world-in-100-breast\/\" target=\"_blank\">women&#8217;s 50-meter breast with a 30.40 split as part of her second-ranked 1:05.82 100-meter breast earlier this weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meilutyte turned in a 30.69, 31.12, 32.01 and 31.70 in order from the first round to the last for the win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Horrocks<\/strong>, meanwhile, won the men&#8217;s 50-meter fly tourney.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aimee Willmott<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/james-guy-sizzles-in-200-free-as-part-of-speedo-flanders-cup-double\/\" target=\"_blank\">already the second-ranked swimmer in the world with a 4:34.82 from the Speedo Flanders Cup<\/a>, won the women&#8217;s 400-meter IM in 4:35.84. \u00a0<strong>Hannah Miley<\/strong> took second in 4:37.24 to move to fifth in the world. \u00a0<strong>Rosie Rudin<\/strong> wound up third in 4:50.61.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dimitrios Koulouris<\/strong> won the men&#8217;s 200-meter breast in a time of 2:12.50 with <strong>Andrew Willis<\/strong> taking second in 2:12.79. \u00a0<strong>Craig Benson<\/strong> placed third in 2:14.27.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chris Walker-Hebborn<\/strong> topped the men&#8217;s 100-meter back in 54.94 with <strong>Luke Greenbank<\/strong> taking second in 56.18. \u00a0<strong>Craig McNally<\/strong> snared third in 56.20.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Viktor Bromer<\/strong> took home the men&#8217;s 200-meter fly in 1:57.64 with <strong>Brendan Hyland<\/strong> earning second in 1:59.23. <strong>\u00a0Jay Lelliott<\/strong> wound up third in 2:00.26.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> demonstrated some longer-distance speed as the sprinter won the women&#8217;s 200-meter free in 1:59.18. \u00a0<strong>Robin Neumann<\/strong> took second in 1:59.64 with<strong> Esmee Vermeulen<\/strong> earning third in 1:59.94.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephen Milne<\/strong> took the title in the men&#8217;s 200-meter free in 1:47.87. <strong>\u00a0Sebastiaan Verschuren<\/strong> finished second in 1:48.57 with <strong>Robbie Renwick<\/strong> placing third in 1:48.87.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mie Nielsen blasted the women&#8217;s 100-meter back finale at the 2016 Edinburgh Invitational.
