Meanwhile, the CSCAA named its NCAA D2 awards, including Patricia Castro Ortega<\/strong> and Dion Dreesens<\/strong> of Queens both being named swimmers of the meet.<\/p>\n Queens Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\n The Queens University of Charlotte Department of Athletics will be holding a welcome back party for the men’s and women’s swim teams beginning at 5 p.m.<\/span><\/span>, on March 13, 2016<\/span><\/span>. The Royals are expected to arrive on campus around 5:30 p.m.<\/span><\/span>, in front of the Levine Center. Queens would like to extend an invitation to students, faculty and staff, and the city of Charlotte, as we welcome back our 2016 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Champions.<\/p>\n The men’s and women’s swim teams captured their second consecutive titles last night as they claimed the 2016 trophies. The women’s team tabbed 567 points to top the competition with a 202.5 gap. The men’s team tallied 449 points over the four days to claim the trophy with a 66.5 point difference.<\/p>\n For the second year running, Patricia Castro-Ortega<\/dfn><\/strong><\/em> was named the Women’s Swimmer of the Meet, as voted on by swimming coaches in attendance. The men’s team also reclaimed the award as Dion Dreesens<\/dfn> landed the nod from the meet.<\/p>\n CSCAA Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\n Diving Awards:<\/u><\/p>\n The CSCAA DII Female Diver of\u00a0the Year Award was presented to\u00a0Monica\u00a0Amaral<\/b>\u00a0from the University of West Florida.\u00a0\u00a0For the second year in-a-row the Male Diver of\u00a0the Year Award\u00a0went to\u00a0Collin Vest<\/b>\u00a0from Clarion University.\u00a0\u00a0Amaral swept\u00a0both boards winning the the 3-Meter competition with a score of 550.20 and\u00a0scored 494.40 on the 1-Meter board to help lead\u00a0the Argonauts to a 6th\u00a0place team finish. Her coach,\u00a0Barbara\u00a0Parker<\/b>, was selected as the CSCAA DII Women\u2019s Team Diving Coach of the\u00a0Year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Swimming Awards:<\/u><\/p>\n For the second straight year\u00a0Patricia Castro-Ortega<\/b>\u00a0from Queens\u00a0University of Charlotte was named the CSCAA DII Female Swimmer of the Year.\u00a0Castro-Ortega won four individual\u00a0titles, all in record time for the second\u00a0time in as many years to lead the Royals to their second NCAA team title.\u00a0\u00a0Castro-Ortega will go into the record books individually\u00a0in the 200\u00a0Individual Medley (1:55.63), 400 Individual Medley (4:08.56), 500\u00a0Freestyle (4:39.28), and 100 Freestyle (48.54).<\/p>\n Junior\u00a0Dion Dreesens<\/b>, from Queens University of Charlotte, was named the\u00a0CSCAA DII Male Swimmer of the Year after winning 3 individual events and\u00a0leading his team to their second\u00a0NCAA DII Championship. Dreesens established\u00a0new DII records in the 200 Freestyle (1:32.46) and 500 Freestyle (4:17.09).\u00a0Dreesens also won the 1000 Freestyle in 9:01.79, placed 3rd\u00a0in the\u00a0100 Freestyle and led off Queen\u2019s record setting 800 Freestyle Relay.<\/p>\n Kirk Sanocki<\/b>\u00a0of Wingate University won the CSCAA DII Women\u2019s Team Coach of the Year after leading\u00a0his team to a second place finish, the highest ever for a Wingate team in any\u00a0women\u2019s sport.\u00a0\u00a0Sanocki is a past\u00a0president of the CSCAA.<\/p>\n First-year head coach\u00a0Mike Blum<\/b>\u00a0of Florida Southern College\u00a0was named the CSCAA DII Men\u2019s Team Coach of the Year after leading his team to\u00a0a 3rd\u00a0place finish.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0Florida\u00a0Southern grad was named head coach mid-summer after serving as an\u00a0assistant and interim head coach.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Following a triumphant four days of action, Queens (Charlotte) will be hosting a welcome home part in Charlotte this evening.
