It was an exciting and fast meet at the 2016 NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships.\u00a0An amazing seventeen\u00a0DII records were broken throughout the four-day meet in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

After a strong final night of competition, both the Queens men and women won their second-consecutive NCAA DII titles.<\/p>\n

The Queens women used their impressive depth to run away with the team title. They finished with 567\u00a0points, bettering their 540.5 points they scored in 2015.\u00a0They were\u00a0202.5 points ahead of runner-up Wingate (364.5).<\/p>\n

The Queens men also grabbed the team title with 449 points, improving upon\u00a0their 433.5 points they scored\u00a0last year.\u00a0They finished 66.5 points ahead of second-place finisher Lindenwood (382.5).<\/p>\n

Queens’\u00a0Patricia Castro Ortega\u00a0<\/strong>won four individual events this weekend, setting new DII records in all of them. On the first night, she set a new mark in the 200 IM<\/a>. She also set new records in the 400 IM<\/a>, 500 free<\/a>, and 100 free<\/a>. The senior was named the Female Swimmer of the Year.<\/p>\n

Queens’\u00a0Dion Dreesens\u00a0<\/strong>crushed his own DII record in the men’s 200 free<\/a> by nearly\u00a0two seconds. The junior also set a new record in the 500 free<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0was the leadoff on Queens’ record-setting 800 free relay<\/a>. He was named the Male Swimmer of the Year.<\/p>\n

Drury’s\u00a0Wen Xu\u00a0<\/strong>also set a new DII record in the women’s\u00a050 free<\/a>, and Wingate’s\u00a0Sofia Petrenko\u00a0<\/strong>broke the record in the women’s 200 fly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lindenwood’s\u00a0Serghei Golban\u00a0<\/strong>set a new mark in the men’s\u00a050 free during prelims<\/a>, and the\u00a0crushed it again<\/a>\u00a0as the leadoff on the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n

Wingate demolished the women’s 400 medley relay<\/a> record, and\u00a0Tampa broke the DII record in the men’s\u00a0200 free relay.<\/a>\u00a0Tampa concluded the meet with a new DII record in the 400 free relay<\/a>.<\/p>\n
