{"id":190206,"date":"2016-03-11T13:55:08","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T20:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=190206"},"modified":"2016-03-14T07:34:06","modified_gmt":"2016-03-14T14:34:06","slug":"ruta-meilutyte-blazes-way-to-2nd-in-world-in-100-breast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ruta-meilutyte-blazes-way-to-2nd-in-world-in-100-breast\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruta Meilutyte Blazes Way to 2nd in World in 100 Breast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ruta Meilutyte<\/strong> provided an answer to<strong> Yuliya Efimova&#8217;s<\/strong> top-ranked time in the women&#8217;s 100-meter breast with a sizzler of her own at the Edinburgh International.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Efimova threw down a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yuliya-efimova-posts-top-ranked-105-70-in-100-breast\/\" target=\"_blank\">smoking top-ranked time of 1:05.70 in the event at the Arena Pro Swim Series Orlando<\/a>. \u00a0Today, Meilutyte checked in with a second-ranked 1:05.82, going out in 30.40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yvette Man-yi Kong<\/strong> took second today in 1:07.88, while <strong>Corrie Scott<\/strong> finished third in 1:08.33.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siobhan O&#8217;Connor<\/strong> cranked out a swift time of 2:10.32 to win the women&#8217;s 200-meter IM. \u00a0That performance pushed her to third in the world behind only <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> (2:07.69) and <strong>Alicia Coutts<\/strong> (2:09.99). \u00a0<strong>Aimee Willmott<\/strong> took second in 2:11.66 for sixth in the world, while <strong>Hannah Miley<\/strong> claimed third in 2:14.59.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Connor doubled up with a 58.79 to win the women&#8217;s 100-meter fly. <strong>\u00a0Jemma Lowe<\/strong> (58.80) and <strong>Laura Stephens<\/strong> (59.38) finished second and third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephen Milne<\/strong> raced his way to fifth in the world rankings in the men&#8217;s 400-meter IM with a 3:48.51. \u00a0<strong>Nicholas Grainger<\/strong> finished second in 3:51.59 with <strong>Maarten Brzoskowski<\/strong> earning third in 3:52.09.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> pushed his way to seventh in the world with a 27.66 in the men&#8217;s 50-meter breast. \u00a0<strong>Charlie Attwood<\/strong> took second in 28.52 with <strong>Caba Siladji<\/strong> snaring third in 28.57.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ben Proud<\/strong> moved up to sixth in the world in the men&#8217;s 100-meter free with a 48.52. \u00a0<strong>Duncan Scott<\/strong> (49.69) and <strong>Robbie Renwick<\/strong> (49.77) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> topped the women&#8217;s 50-meter free race in 25.65, off her eighth-ranked 24.73 from the Hague Grand Prix. \u00a0<strong>Mie Nielson<\/strong> placed second in 25.85 with <strong>Maaike De Ward<\/strong> claiming third in 25.88.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Max Litchfield<\/strong> won the men&#8217;s 400-meter IM in 4:18.35. <strong>\u00a0Matthew Johnson<\/strong> took second in 4:23.26 with <strong>Lewis Smith<\/strong> earning third in 4:28.73.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elizabeth Simmonds<\/strong> captured the women&#8217;s 200-meter back crown in 2:10.17 with<strong> Jessica Fullalove<\/strong> taking second in 2:10.69. \u00a0<strong>Kirsty Simpson<\/strong> picked up third in 2:13.53.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke Greenbank<\/strong> hit the wall first in the men&#8217;s 200-meter back with a 2:00.03. \u00a0<strong>Joe Hulme<\/strong> snared second in 2:01.11 with <strong>Craig McNally<\/strong> taking third in 2:01.44.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ruta Meilutyte provided an answer to Yuliya Efimova&#8217;s top-ranked time in the women&#8217;s 100-meter breast with a sizzler of her own at the Edinburgh International.
