The meet was swum in short course yards in prelims and long course meters in finals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an event we don\u2019t often see him, <\/span><b>Ryan Lochte <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-lochte-shines-at-southern-premier\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 200 butterfly handily in 1:59.14<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Lochte <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also recorded a 1:48.80 leading off the 800 freestyle relay and won the 200 IM in 2:01.14. <\/span><b>Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arianna-vanderpool-wallace-has-big-50-at-southern-premier\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posted a blistering fast 21.37 in the 50 yard freestyle before coming back to win it in 24.80 in long course finals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. With Trials only a month away for the Australian team, this meet served as a final tuneup for many as they finished their preparations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Cameron McEvoy <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cameron-mcevoy-turns-heat-100-free-australia\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 100 freestyle in 48.40<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, just off of his top-ranked time of 47.56. Finishing just behind <\/span><b>McEvoy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was seventeen-year-old <\/span><b>Kyle Chalmers, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who finished a couple tenths off his own personal best in 48.68. <\/span><b>James Magnussen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery, was third in a season-best 49.22. <\/span><b>Magnussen<\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/emma-mckeon-downs-commonwealth-record-200-free\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">later posted a 48.85 on the final day leading off the 4 x 100 free relay<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>McEvoy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also finished <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cameron-mcevoy-tops-200-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first in a tight 200 freestyle, winning in 1:46.85<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On the women\u2019s side, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cameron-mcevoy-turns-heat-100-free-australia\/\"><b>Cate Campbell <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">took the 100 free in 52.85<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cameron-mcevoy-tops-200-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sister <\/span><b>Bronte <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 50 freestyle in 24.37<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Emma<\/b> <b>Mckeon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won a close <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cameron-mcevoy-tops-200-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">100 butterfly in 57.24 to post the fourth ranked time<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the world this year, but saved the best for last when she <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/emma-mckeon-downs-commonwealth-record-200-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">set a Commonwealth record in the 200 freestyle on the last day of the meet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That gave the 21-year old the Commonwealth record by .01, breaking <\/span><b>Joanna Jackson\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2009 record. First, <\/span><b>Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">broke <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-cranks-out-european-record-429-89-in-france\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">her own 2009 European record in the 400 IM, recording a best time of 4:29.89<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That was the first time the Iron Lady has been under 4:30 and ties her with the third fastest performance of all time. Later in the meet, <\/span><b>Hosszu <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-sizzles-with-world-best-207-69-in-200-im\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">returned in the 200 IM with a world-leading 2:07.69<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that cleared her top-ranked 2:08.20 from Nice in January. That swim gives <\/span><b>Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">six out of the top ten all-time performances in the 200 IM and sits her almost three seconds ahead of the next fastest performer this year.\u00a0<\/span><b>Sakiko Shimizu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> owns the second-best time with a 2:10.51. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While we are used to seeing <\/span><b>Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">put up fast times throughout the year, we aren\u2019t used to seeing her swim such a (for her) light schedule. In addition to her two wins in the Individual Medleys, she only had one other swim during the meet. That was a 200 backstroke on the second day of the meet, which she won in 2:07.36 to move up to second in the world this year. Both of those efforts were just off her second-ranked 46.29 from 2014 Junior Nationals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/andrew-wilson-abbey-weitzeil-santo-condorelli-shine-during-lcm-portion-of-american-short-course-championships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s meet also featured a two-day long-course competition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where <\/span><b>Weitzeil <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">put up world top ten times in the 50 (24.72) and 100 (53.77) freestyle events. Mandatory Credit: Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports\" width=\"700\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-178162\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Courtesy: Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week many of the best swimmers from across the country came together for the third Arena Pro Series meet of 2016. <\/span><b>Katie Ledecky, Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and many others came out to compete as they continue their preparations towards Olympic Trials this summer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Missy Franklin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had a breakthrough meet, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/missy-franklin-springs-4th-world-100-back\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breaking 1:00 in the 100-meter backstroke for the first time this season<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Franklin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">split 29.40 and 30.40 en route to a 59.80 win in the event, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/video-interview-missy-franklin-speaks-after-breaking-100-to-win-100-back\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expressing her satisfaction in her post-race interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That swim puts her 4th in the world in that event. <\/span><b>Franklin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/missy-franklin-moves-to-5th-in-world-in-200-back\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 200-meter backstroke in 2:08.77, running down <\/span><b>Dominque Bouchard <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the last 50 to move to fifth in the world<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and improve on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/watch-maya-dirado-crack-katinka-hosszu-in-200-back-in-austin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">her 2:09.21 from the Austin stop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the series. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Katie Ledecky, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who said she was in the midst of heavy training,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">passed on her usual 400 and 800 freestyle events to focus on the shorter freestyle events and both IMs. <\/span><b>Ledecky <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-clocks-2nd-fastest-200-free-year\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won the 200 freestyle in the second fastest time this year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while also posting best times in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/video-interview-katie-ledecky-talks-about-lifetime-best-in-unconventional-double\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 200<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/maya-dirado-vaults-4th-world-400-im\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">400 IM<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Yuliya Efimova <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">arguably had the two strongest swims of the meet, posting winning times of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yuliya-efimova-posts-top-ranked-105-70-in-100-breast\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1:05.70 in the 100 breaststroke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yuliya-efimova-scorches-200-breast-with-2nd-ranked-221-41\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2:21.41 in the 200 breaststroke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Those swims respectively rank her first and second in the world this year.
