BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, September 9. THE University of New Orleans men's swimming and diving team fell to Stanford in 196-63 in the first dual meet of the national calendar year on Monday night at the Crawfish Aquatic Center in Baton Rouge, La.<\/p>\n
With only two weeks to practice prior to Monday's dual, the Privateer men made headway in accomplishing their goal of breaking every school record established during the four year run of UNO men's swimming that occurred from 1988-1992 as six school records were broken.<\/p>\n
Mark Schindler set the pace for the Privateers, establishing two school records on the opening night swimming the 200 breast in a time of 2:11.28 and following it with a 200 IM performance of 2:01.70. The 200 breast mark eclipsed Jim Wright's 1991 Metro Championships mark of 2:13.45 while Schindler's new standard in the 200 IM broke the 2:04.20 by Dean Reed in 1990 against Rice and Florida A&M.<\/p>\n
In the second event of the night, it was Max Beach who joined the list of firsts for the Privateers this season as he became the first UNO male to set a school record since Wright in 1991 when he established a mark in the 1000 free. Prior to Beach's 10:36.02, which placed him fourth in the event, no Privateer had ever participated in the event.<\/p>\n
Three other marks would fall throughout the dual including the 100 back record when Petar Petrovic placed himself at the top of the school's top marks in the event with a 52.51, breaking Reed's 54.14 set in 1991.<\/p>\n
Jarryd Gregoire, who finished fourth in the 100 back, narrowly missed joining Petrovic in swimming under Reed's old mark, finishing with a time of 54.23. Gregoire would get a record later in the dual when he finished fourth in the 100 fly with a time of 53.42, breaking Wright's 53.62 by two tenths of a second.<\/p>\n
The final record of the night would belong to Alex Tarr who established a new school high in the 200 fly when he touched the wall third with a time of 2:14.32.<\/p>\n
Other highlights for the Privateers against Stanford included Schindler and Ben Solari scoring points in the 100 breast finishing second and third. Schindler and Solari's times presently stand second and third in UNO history in the event.<\/p>\n
Ryan Moss swam a time of 49.44 in the 100 free, the third fastest mark in school history while Gregoire would swim the fourth fastest 50 free in school history with a time of 22.56.<\/p>\n
A pair of UNO swimmers would narrowly miss school records as Petrovic with a 1:59.68 in the 200 back and Jake Van Roekel in the 500 free with a time of 5:01.18 left Baton Rouge standing second in each respective events.<\/p>\n
