{"id":189706,"date":"2016-03-05T19:43:03","date_gmt":"2016-03-06T02:43:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=189706"},"modified":"2016-03-05T20:01:45","modified_gmt":"2016-03-06T03:01:45","slug":"abbey-weitzeil-blasts-50-free-american-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/abbey-weitzeil-blasts-50-free-american-record\/","title":{"rendered":"(Race Video) Abbey Weitzeil Blasts 50 Free American Record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Abbey Weitzeil blasted the American record in the women&#8217;s 50-yard free during her individual event at the 2016 American Short Course Championships in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>She scorched finals with a 21.12 for the win tonight, breaking\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-womens-division-i-championships-pair-of-american-ncaa-u-s-open-records-fall-to-start-night-on-demand-video-available\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Lara Jackson\u2019s<\/strong> American record of 21.27 set as a relay leadoff for Arizona during the 2009 NCAA Division I Women\u2019s Championships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Weizeil initially missed the American record by the slimmest of margins during the 200-yard free relay.\u00a0She clocked a 21.28 leadoff to just miss.<\/p>\n<p>This morning during prelims, Weitzeil threw down a swift\u00a0time of 21.42.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Abbey Weitzeil Blazes Way to 21.12 American Record in 50 Yard Free\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5-dyNrCuhUA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
