{"id":189676,"date":"2016-03-05T13:20:36","date_gmt":"2016-03-05T20:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=189676"},"modified":"2016-03-05T14:28:45","modified_gmt":"2016-03-05T21:28:45","slug":"stanford-and-usc-battle-for-top-spots-in-final-day-of-2016-pac-12-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/stanford-and-usc-battle-for-top-spots-in-final-day-of-2016-pac-12-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Stanford and USC Battle For Top Spots In Final Day Of The 2016 Pac 12 Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Day four of the 2016 Pac 12 Men&#8217;s Championships continued with fast swims across the board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Events<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 BACK<\/li>\n<li>100 FREE<\/li>\n<li>200 BREAST<\/li>\n<li>200 FLY<\/li>\n<li>PLATFORM DIVING<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>200 BACK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Patrick Mulcare<\/strong> of USC delivered the top time in prelims of the 200 back, stopping the clock at a sizzling 1:40.22.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Patrick Conaton<\/strong> placed second in prelims with a time of 1:40.85, shaving 2.41 seconds off his entry time of 1:43.26.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thane\u00a0<\/strong><b>Maudslien\u00a0<\/b>of Arizona rounded out the top three with a time of 1:41.60 with Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ryan Arata<\/strong> finishing close behind with a time of 1:41.66 for fourth.<\/p>\n<p>USC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Knox<\/strong> took fifth in prelims with a 1:41.92, while ASU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Barkley Perry<\/strong> posted a 1:42.00 for sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chatham Dobbs\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Connor Green<\/strong> finished seventh and eighth with a 1:42.47 and 1:43.29.<\/p>\n<p><strong>100 FREE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sam Perry<\/strong> dashed to the top of the qualifiers list in the 100 free turning in a 42.92 to be the only athlete under the 43-second mark.<\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Justin Lynch<\/strong> and Arizona&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Renny Richmond<\/strong> stopped the clock a slim .02 seconds apart to return as second and third for tonight&#8217;s finals. Lynch turned in a 43.08 over Richmond&#8217;s 43.10.<\/p>\n<p>The field only narrowed after that with the fourth through sixth place qualifiers posting times within .08 seconds of each other. USC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ralf Tribuntsov<\/strong> snagged fourth with a qualifying time of 43.21 while teammate\u00a0<strong>Reed Malone<\/strong> posted a 43.25 for fifth.\u00a0<strong>Richard Bohus<\/strong> of ASU finished sixth with a 43.29.<\/p>\n<p>ASU teammate\u00a0<strong>Tadas Duskinas\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed seventh with a 43.34 and Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Spencer DeShon<\/strong> finished eighth in prelims with a 43.46.<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 BREAST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Steven Stumph<\/strong> of USC blasted to a 1:53.61 in prelims to return as tonight&#8217;s top qualifier in the 200 breaststroke. Stumph succeeded in shaving 3.09 seconds off his entry time of 1:56.70.<\/p>\n<p>ASU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Christian Lorenz<\/strong> posted the second fastest time of the morning, qualifying for tonight&#8217;s finals with a time of 1:55.03, while third went to Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matt Anderson<\/strong> and his time of 1:55.24.<\/p>\n<p>Cal teammates\u00a0<strong>Matt Whittle\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Hunter Cobleigh<\/strong> grabbed fourth and fifth respectively.
