{"id":189557,"date":"2016-03-04T09:30:04","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T16:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=189557"},"modified":"2016-03-04T09:30:04","modified_gmt":"2016-03-04T16:30:04","slug":"brad-snyder-sets-two-american-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brad-snyder-sets-two-american-records\/","title":{"rendered":"Brad Snyder Sets Two American Records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past weekend, <a href=\"http:\/\/finisinc.cmail20.com\/t\/r-l-epqht-drfkjhdhh-u\/\" target=\"_blank\">FINIS<\/a>-sponsored athlete and United States Navy veteran,<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/finisinc.cmail20.com\/t\/r-l-epqht-drfkjhdhh-o\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brad Snyder<\/a><\/strong>, broke two American Records at the ECAC Swimming Championships, on the campus of the US Naval Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Snyder, a Paralympic gold medalist, competes in the S11 category.\u00a0 He lost his eyesight in 2011 from an IED explosion while serving the United States Navy in Afghanistan. \u00a0Snyder broke his own American Record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.12, crushing his old record of 55.59, set back in 2014.\u00a0 He also set a new American Record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.90, almost 8 full seconds faster than the previous record.<\/p>\n<p>Snyder was competing under the new ECAC Inclusive Sports Initiative, which was set into motion this weekend.\u00a0 This initiative will soon allow Paralympic Classified athlete to score at collegiate meets.\u00a0 The competition this past weekend was the first test in implanting the system, and was a resounding success.\u00a0 Snyder\u2019s two American Records, were among the ten set at the meet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica',sans-serif;\">\u201cI\u2019m immensely proud and excited about the ECAC inclusion initiative! I was honored to compete in the exhibition and I\u2019m looking forward to seeing how the \u201cdisability\u201d category is integrated next year. It is my most sincere hope that this inclusion initiative will serve as a model for other conferences to follow in the future.
