LAWRENCE, Kan., Ovt. 27. THE University of Texas men's and women's swimming and diving teams each won their respective competitions at the Big 12 Relays
\nheld Friday, Oct. 27, at Robinson Natatorium in Lawrence, Kan. <\/p>\n
Head coach Eddie Reese's defending NCAA Champions and No. 1 ranked Texas men collected 117 points en route to their victory, trailed by No. 9 Texas A&M (105),
\nIowa State (67), Missouri (61.50), and Kansas (46.50). <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, co-head coaches Jill Sterkel and Mike Walker's seventh-ranked Texas women finished first with 117 points, followed by Kansas (75), Texas A&M (73), Missouri (71), and Iowa State (63).<\/p>\n
Senior Nate Dusing (Villa Hills, Ky. \/ Covington Catholic) led the men's swimming team, participating in six winning relays. Junior Tommy Hannan
\n(Baltimore, Md.\/Mount St. Joseph) competed on five winning relays, while freshmen Ian Crocker (Portland, Maine\/Cheverus Jesuit College Prep) and Brendan Hansen (Havertown, Pa.\/Haverford) each contributed on four winning teams.<\/p>\n
For the Texas women, four swimmers each took part in six winning relays: senior Colleen Lann\u00e9 (Tucson, Ariz.\/Salpointe Catholic), junior Kelley Robins (Houston, Texas\/Awty International), sophomores Tanica Jamison (Dublin, Calif.\/Dublin) and Erin Phenix (Cincinnati, Ohio\/Ursuline Academy). Senior Erin Howarth (Shrewbury, Mass.\/Shrewbury) also participated in five winning relays.<\/p>\n
The Texas divers were a significant part of the UT victories. On the men's side, junior Jarod Carter (League City, Texas\/Clear Creek) captured the one
\nand three-meter springboard events. Sophomore Kristin Marquis (San JuanCapistrano, Calif.\/Santa Margarita Catholic) captured the three-meter springboard title after coming in second during the one-meter competition.<\/p>\n
"We are very please with our performance tonight," said co-head women's swimming coach Jill Sterkel. "Everyone was focused ready to compete. We
\nshowed it by capturing 13 relays. This definitely starts the season in the right direction and gets us ready to defend our conference championship in
\nMarch."<\/p>\n
Both the Texas men's and women's swimming and diving teams are the defending Big 12 Conference Swimming and Diving champions, as the men won their 21st consecutive conference title in 2000 while the women took their second consecutive title last season.<\/p>\n
