I: Virginia Men and Women Down Clemson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VIRGINIA SWIMMING TEAMS DOWN CLEMSON IN ACC OPENER<\/p>\n<p>Cavalier men post 156-87 win, women register 150-93 victory<br \/>\n     CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., October 28.  THE University of Virginia men&#39;s and women&#39;s swimming and diving teams successfully opened the Atlantic Coast Conference<br \/>\nportions of their schedules with victories over Clemson today at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.  The Virginia men won 156-87,while the UVa women recorded their 23rd-consecutive dual meet win with a<br \/>\n150-93 victory over the Tigers.  Both UVa teams improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, while the two Clemson squads fall to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in<br \/>\nthe ACC.<\/p>\n<p>The 11th-ranked Virginia men won 156-87 with freshman Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va.\/Bolles School) leading the way with a pair of individual wins and a relay victory.  Anderson won the 50 and 100 freestyles with times of 20.89 and 45.54, respectively.  He also swam the anchor leg on UVa&#39;s winning 400 free relay team (3:03.15).  Freshman Ian Prichard (Ventura, Calif.\/Buena) was a double winner for Virginia as well.<br \/>\nHe triumphed in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.72 and also won the 500 free in 4:27.26, which met the NCAA &quot;B&quot; qualifying time.  <\/p>\n<p>Freshman Luke Wagner (Greenwood, Colo.\/Regis Jesuit) touched in a NCAA &quot;B&quot; qualifying time of 1:47.17 in winning the 200 backstroke.  Wagner also swam the third leg on UVa&#39;s winning 400 free relay team.  Freshman Jon Haag (Ashland,Ohio\/Ashland) and senior Troy Johnson (St. George, Utah\/Dixie) also swam legs on the &#39;Hoos winning 400 free relay.  Senior Jamie Grimes (Olney, Md.\/Sherwood) led a top-four Cavalier sweep in the 1000 free with a time of 9:11.79.  Senior Michael Fuller (Richmond, Va.\/Mills Godwin)and sophomore Guy Yimsomruay (Bangkok, Thailand\/Germantown Academy) rounded out Virginia&#39;s individual event winners in the 200 butterfly (1:49.83) and 200 individual medley (1:51.95), respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Clemson sophomore diver Craig Thomas swept diving events with scores of 258.45 and 282.60 on the one and three-meter boards, respectively.  Sophomore Gregor Govse won the 200 breaststroke in 2:05.41 for the Tigers.<\/p>\n<p>The 12th-ranked Virginia women extended their dual meet winning streak to 23 with a 150-93 victory over Clemson.  The streak dates back to the 1997-98 season.  A trio of Cavaliers won two individual events apiece in the victory.  Sophomore Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia\/Trinity Prep), a 2000 Olympian,<br \/>\nwon the 1000 free and the 200 individual medley.  Bosevska won the 1000 free by nearly 10 seconds (9:48.69) and then missed the NCAA &quot;B &quot; qualifying standard by one one-hundredth of a second with a winning time of 2:03.92 in the 200 IM.  She was also second to sophomore Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C.\/ Providence) in the 500 free.  Lane bettered the NCAA &quot;B&quot; standard with a winning time of 4:47.42 in the 500 free, while Bosevska was second in 4:54.99.  Lane also captured the 200 butterfly with a NCAA &quot;B&quot;<br \/>\ntime of 2:00.85.  Lane was second in the 200 free in 1:50.35 as well, which also met the NCAA &quot;B&quot; standard.  <\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Alison Sharp (Newton, Pa.\/Council Rock) swept the women&#39;s diving events.  She won the one-meter<br \/>\nboard with a total of 252.25 points and then qualified for NCAA Zone Diving Regionals in the three-meter board with 276.75 points.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla.\/Trinity Prep) won the 200 freestyle with a NCAA &quot;B&quot; qualifying time of 1:50.26.  Dykehouse also swam the second leg of the Cavaliers&#39; winning 400 free relay team that posted a time of 3:28.76).  Frosh Jenna Bridges (Jacksonville, Fla.\/Bolles School), senior Megan Iffland (Wilmington, Del.\/St. Mark&#39;s) and junior Megan Roesch (Columbia, Md.\/Wilde Lake) swam on the winning<br \/>\nrelay team as well.
