The new facility will be a 42,000-square-foot-center that will be the new home for SMU\u2019s men and women\u2019s swimming and diving programs. The Aquatics Center will be on the university\u2019s east campus, and will feature an 8-lane long course olympic indoor pool. The new facility will also contain a platform diving well that will feature four springboards and a 10-meter tower for training and competition. Spectator seating on the mezzanine level will have space for 800 people for competitions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This replaces the famous Perkins Natatorium, which was the home of the Mustangs swim programs from 1959 to 2014. While only a 6 six-lane pool that was relatively shallow, it was legendary for the fast times posted during the annual SMU Classic and had pool records from numerous NCAA Champions and Olympians. After a dominant HYP meet all eyes were on the Tigers to repeat their impressive performance. While Princeton did ultimately come out on top, the Harvard men did not go down without a fight. The Crimson led through the first two days of the meet before <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/corey-okubo-leads-princeton-to-ivy-title\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Princeton surged through day three to take the title by 21.5 points.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notable swims included Penn senior <\/span><b>Chris Swanson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recording a meet record and NCAA \u2018A\u2019 cut in the 1650 freestyle, touching in 14:40.18. <\/span><b>Swanson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also won the 500 freestyle (4:16.13) and 1,000 freestyle (8:51.32). Harvard\u2019s 200 freestyle relay of <\/span><b>Paul O\u2019Hara, Max Yakubovich, Steven Tan, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Sebastian Lutz <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also recorded an A cut while picking up the win in 1:17.55, while Princeton\u2019s 400 free relay of <\/span><b>En-Wei Hu-Van Wright<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Julian Mackrel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Ben Schafer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Sandy Bole<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sealed their teams victory en route to recording an A cut time of 2:52.06. Michigan kept the ball rolling in the 800 free relay, where <\/span><b>Anders Nielsen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:32.36), <\/span><b>Mokhtar Al-Yamani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:35.63), <\/span><b>Jack Mangan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:33.64) and <\/span><b>Dylan<\/b> <b>Bosch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:33.41) won the relay at 6:15.04. That protected the Wolverine\u2019s 16 year winning streak in that relay. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michigan continued their strong showing on the second night, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/men-big-ten-thursday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as <\/span><b>Anders Nielson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(4:12.83) took the 500 free, and <\/span><b>Dylan Bosch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 IM<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But the stand-out swim from that night had to be sophomore <\/span><b>Paul Powers, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/race-video-paul-powers-blazes-to-big-ten-record-18-85\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who became the fourth man under 19-seconds in the 50 freestyle this season when he won in 18.85<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Only a sophomore, <\/span><b>Powers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was seeded with a 19.37 coming into the meet, clocking a Big 10 record of 19.03 in prelims before dipping under at night. He will be one of the now-many sprint stars to watch at NCAA\u2019s, as we are set up to have potentially the fastest 50 free field in history. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the final night of the meet, sophomore <\/span><b>PJ Ransford, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who was second in the 1,650 last year at NCAA\u2019s, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michigan-wins-6th-mens-big-ten-title\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dominated the field by more than 20 seconds, touching in 14:36.61<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to break the legendary <\/span><b>Peter Vanderkaay\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2004 pool record. The men finished more 350 points ahead of runner-up Louisville and over 500 points ahead of third place North Carolina. As usual, the Wolfpack dominated the relay and sprint freestyle events. They came away with four relay wins, and NC State had nearly half of the A finalists in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles while sweeping those events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NC State started off with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nc-state-sweeps-relays-day-1-mens-acc-championships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two meet records in the 200 Medley and 800 Freestyle relays, touching in 1:23.19 and 6:12.76 respectively<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They followed that up with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ipsen-fiala-repeats-as-champions-mens-acc-championships-live-recap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">third relay win in the 200 free relay (1:15.65)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/race-video-nc-states-ryan-held-simonas-bilis-both-post-18s-in-50-free\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fresh off of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sub-19 swims in the individual 50 freestyle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Sophomore <\/span><b>Ryan Held <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touched first in a meet record time of 18.92, just ahead of teammate <\/span><b>Simonas Bilis <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who was second in 18.94. Both of those time were just off of <\/span><b>Bilis\u2019 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2015 conference record of 18.91. While USC had some big wins from <\/span><b>Chelsea Chenault <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 500 (4:38.13) and freshman <\/span><b>Elizabeth Stinson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 1,650 (15:59.13), ultimately it was the program\u2019s depth across all of the events that helped bring them home the title. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While USC came away with the championship title, Stanford and Cal still put up some lightning fast swims to keep things interesting. Stanford opened the meet with an American Record in the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of <\/span><b>Ally Howe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (23.62), <\/span><b>Sarah Haase<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (26.20), <\/span><b>Janet Hu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (22.82) and <\/span><b>Lia Neal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (21.51) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/stanford-clips-american-record-women\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touched in 1:34.15 to break Cal\u2019s record from the 2012 NCAA\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On the third night, those same four women came together to clip the 400 medley relay as well, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/stanford-breaks-american-record-in-womens-400-medley-relay-at-pac-12s\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touching in 3:26.25 to clear the Cardinal\u2019s record from NCAA\u2019s last year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not to be outdone, rival California managed to post some impressive swims of their own. On the second night of the meet Cal junior <\/span><b>Farida Osman <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posted history\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/california-stanford-usc-battle-it-out-on-night-2-of-womens-pac-12-championship\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second-fastest 50 freestyle ever when she won in 21.32<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That ties the Golden Bear with Stanford rival <\/span><b>Simone Manuel, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who is redshirting this year in preparation for 2016 Olympic Trials. <\/span><b>Osman <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/stanfords-multiple-event-wins-not-enough-to-combat-uscs-depth-on-day-3\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also won the 100 butterfly in 50.53<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the only woman in the field under :51. Notably, freshman <\/span><b>Amy Bilquist <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/eastin-set-up-for-second-individual-title-of-2016-pac-12-championship-after-prelims-day-3\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posted a meet record 50.50 in the prelims of the 100 backstroke, shaving nearly two seconds off her lifetime best<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, before falling to third behind Stanford\u2019s <\/span><b>Ally Howe <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and fellow Golden Bear <\/span><b>Rachel Bootsma <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the finals at night. <\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The real star of the meet, however, was Stanford freshman <\/span><b>Ella Eastin, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who recorded three individual wins throughout the championship. That started with a 1:52.77 win over <\/span><b>Bilquist <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 200 IM, and was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/eastin-joins-elite-club-with-sub-4-400-im\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">followed up by a huge 3:59.30 in the 400 IM<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That time set the 17-18 NAG record and made <\/span><b>Eastin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the youngest woman ever under 4:00 in the longer IM.
